Irish Brown and White Cow

Happy New Year! I guess when most of you will be seeing this we will be in 2007! It seems like yesterday that I couldn't imagine saying 2000! Well, today was a fun day...slept in REALLY late but I have been quite the night owl lately with the holiday schedule. I posted my rooster late last night and then stayed up watching a really bad lifetime movie. Today's painting I started earlier in the day doing my usual acrylic first layer with a violet background which you can still see peeking through in different places. Then I went over it with my oils and had fun with layers of colors and a pretty periwinkle blue over the background violet. I tried a new paint brand...Holbein and really like it. It had wonderful consistency and saturation of color. Well, it is 12 by 12 like most of my cow portraits and it is now on auction on eBay....just click on my link! Best wishes in the coming year and as always....thank you for your bids and for all the wonderful support! Norma SOLD

Chincoteague Wild Pony

This piece is a 12 by 12 oil inspired by my painting trip to Chincoteague this past September. I think I will need to do some tweeking tomorrow. Some paintings really flow out and others don't....this one is one of them but I will give it some more attention tomorrow. I like to make my best effort to post my daily work each day so I made the decision to just put it on tonight. Even when the result is not what I'd hoped....the process is still one of joy and discovery. Something that I have noticed is that a sort of familiarity and intimacy grows with whatever subject I am working on....I may have looked at something many times but after I paint it...there is a knowing that is hard to describe. I guess that is why time passes so quickly and seems almost like meditation....it slows the mind and feeds the soul...enough philosophizing! Till tomorrow....

Black Lab Portrait Completed

I completed this last night after midnight so I missed getting it on daily painters so it will be on there tomorrow! I don't think you can put two on to make up for it. Perhaps after Christmas I can figure out how to get more than one to show up on my blog. This piece is being picked up today to go to a friend of my son's mother for Christmas. This dog passed away a couple of weeks ago but he wanted his Mom to have a special memory of him. He loved the beach and the Outer Banks. I'm happy with how it turned out and I hope she likes it. Now, it's out to face the madness for some last minute stocking stuffers!

Hello All,
The past two days my server has been messed up. It just wouldn't load the pictures so this would have been last night's. This cow is the mother to the calf I have in my store on eBay at the moment. I'd better get back to painting. I have a commission to finish and another for eBay. Hope all your holidays are going well. Valentia Calf In The Light

Hi All,
Another busy day shipping, painting, spending time with family and painting! I took a break from my commission of the last couple of days and worked on another cow. This one was from a photograph taken in Valentia of a beautiful cow and her calf. I choose to do the baby tonight and Mom will be in the near future. She was standing so sweetly next to her Mum with the sun lighting up half her face and I am really pleased with how it turned out. It is always such a journey of discovery doing another face. They begin to take on a life of their own as the paint begins to mix and guide me along the way. This piece is another 12 by 12 on gallery wrapped canvas that is 3/4 inch deep and can be left unframed or put in a frame of your choice. Til tomorrow...

Black Lab/ Still in Progress!

Well...it's the holidays! It was a day filled with getting paintings ready to ship, running errands, shopping at our new Jerry's Artarama....I LOVE that place, and getting the house ready for my sons return home from college for Christmas. Then I worked on my painting and it still isn't finished. Closer though. I played a lot with color and defining the values a bit more....more work on it tomorrow! Talk to you then....

Black Lab/ Commission In Progress

Black Lab/ Commission In Progress.....I had hoped to have this finished by this evening but I have been working out the background composition and making some changes and it has just taken longer than expected! Labradors and the beach sure do go together.....in doing some research for this background that my client wanted...I have come across oodles of photos taken by happy owners at the beach with their dogs with frizzbees and tennis balls ready to play! I love doing these portraits and am now taking orders for after the holidays. For more information....please contact me at www.nswilsonandco@cox.net. I have a brochure that I can forward online to you. I should have this finished or at least an update tomorrow evening. Good Night!

Irish Black and White Dairy Cow

I never tire of doing these portraits! Every face is so unique and so full of personality. This one seems to be a very feminine and a bit of a party girl. I painted her on 5 by 7 primed masonite board and did a base painting in acrylic painting and then went over the whole painting in oil. I have been enjoying this way of doing it lately as it seems to set up the whole painting and then the oil is like the icing on the cake. Some of the brighter green acrylic shows through the oil giving it nice depth. I think tomorrow might be another cow day....a bigger one. It is late......I must get some sleep as tomorrow is a big painting day with pastel pet portrait commissions to finish and several pieces for eBay. Nite.

The Dwelling Place In Ireland

What a busy day! Today was a great day spent getting the house organized, cleaned up and decorating the tree for the holidays with some really great friends. Then I went to a really fun party downtown with great food and live Irish music! After all this partying, I came home to the realization that I HAD NOT DONE my daily painting yet! At 10:00 I sat down and did a REALLY bad rooster....so bad that I decided not to post it but I did paint today and complete it! Instead I am posting a painting that has not been on eBay or my web site. It was sold just a couple of days after finishing it and I just need to deliver it to its rightful owner. This piece was inspired by my trip to Valentia, Ireland this past summer. Til tomorrow! Norma SOLD

Dog Portrait/ Golden Retreiver

Today's post is another commissioned pet portrait. Her name is Breezy and her family is doing this in her memory. This one has been quite a challenge as the photograph was very old and washed out. I have been getting feedback from the family for the color of her coat. It is always best to take many photos of your pet in your favorite positions and in the out of doors if possible. If you would like more information about having a portrait done, please contact me at nswilsonandco@cox.net.

Baking Cookies

What to paint....time to raid the pantry and find something colorful. I am so drawn to red and love the combination of red and yellow together. Then I spotted my Davis Baking Powder container. I added a recipe and measuring spoon and it was time to bake Christmas cookies....in my painting! Not so sure when I will get to the real thing. There are so many paintings to paint! I just posted this piece to eBay so follow my link to my store and you will also find some of my previous posts that I just listed this evening. Good night all!
