Black Labrador Puppy

Today's post is a special one as it is a portrait of my new grandpuppy. I am sure he will be my model at each stage of his growth. He is growing so fast! I chose to do this in soft pastel to capture the details of the light on his fur and his cute expression. I love how the light refracts on the rich colors of the pastel pigment. They are a joy to work with! It is an 8 by 8 on archival sanded paper. It is currently on auction on eBay for more details. Click to Bid!

Norma Wilson Giraffe Painting Art

Today was a quiet day at home in my studio with Bailee and Keesha...my faithful companions. I decided to rework a piece that I had listed before but didn't like the background and I also added a bit more to the face and body. I am much happier with it. Sometimes you just have to live with a piece to decide what it needs. It is a 12 by 24 on wrap around canvas with 3/4 inch painted sides. You can choose to frame or leave unframed. I think this piece would look great in a child's room or den. Thanks so much for stopping by! Click to Bid!

Hello All,

Hope you all had a great start to your week.....guess that was yesterday! Apparently my blog was picked up as a spam blog erroneously by spam-prevention robots! I won't be on the daily painters site for a couple of days but will be back in a couple of days. Take care, Norma Click to Bid!

Molly and Daisy On The Beach

Today was another fun day taking care of my new "grandpuppy". My son returns from his mini vacation tomorrow and I will be relieved of my duty. I have VERY mixed feelings about this! He is so adorable!!! There hasn't been a whole lot of painting goin' on however! It really is like having a baby in the house again. I worked on a 16 by 16 cow this evening and ended up wiping most of it off which I rarely do but just kept thinking he would be waking up from his nap any minute! So, in lieu of posting my daily painting, I have decided to post a pastel commission I did this past year. It is not for sale but is a great example of the pet portraits I do in soft pastel from photographs that clients send me. I have occasionally taken the pictures myself from people who live nearby but this couple had their "girls" at their favorite place....the beach and wanted me to paint them in that setting. I was really happy with this piece and they were too. I have painted two more of their parents dogs. If you have any questions about having a portrait done of one of your special pets, please contact me at nswilsonandco@cox.net or call me at 757 729-4136. Have a great evening!

Colorful Tabby Cat Soft Pastel

The weather was SO beautiful today with bright sunny skies and a soft cool breeze.... It was my first full day of puppy sitting my new grandpuppy. His name is Brewsky and he belongs to my son, Sean, who is taking him back to his apartment where he is entering his junior year at Virginia Teach. Brewsky is a gorgeous black lab and is not quite two months old. He was a joy to spend the day with but I must admit....other than shipping a painting, I did not get any painting done! It is like having a new baby in the house again. He is only happy when he can lay right next to me. I don't think I am going to want him to leave! My other two dogs and cat will be happy to pack his bags!

Today's painting is sold already but I wanted to post something and encourage anyone who is interested in having a pet portrait done....to give me a call or e-mail me. My phone number is 757 729-4136 and e-mail is nswilsonandco@cox.net. My cat, Rusty was the model for this piece which I entered into the Cat Show at the Artists Gallery and it received an award that evening. I sure do love painting animals. This one is a soft pastel and I also do them in oil. Thanks for stopping by....hope your weekend is going well.

The past couple of days have been very busy as my son Sean just got a black lab puppy! He is adorable and I haven't been able to spend as much time at the easel. That's why I didn't post last evening....that's my excuse and I'm stickin' with it! Things should pick up again as we adjust to the new fella. Just when we do....they will be leaving to go back to Virginia Tech. Here is today's painting! Click to Bid!

Reddish Pink Rose

Today's post is a 20 by 20 original oil on wrap around canvas with 3/4 inch painted sides. It was a joy to paint. I have always been drawn to florals as there are so many intricate curves and shadows to describe with paint. It is so fun to begin with a flat image and gradually with each application of paint...the 3 dimensions begin to emerge. Pure joy! Hope you are having a great weekend! Thanks for stopping by! Norma Wilson Original Soft Pastel Goose Bird Landscape

Today's post is an a 14 by 17 pastel that is done in many layers on archival sanded paper. My first love in the art world was soft pastel and I still do many pet portraits in this medium as I can get such realistic effects for fur and feathers. I love these geese that are all around here in Virginia. This one was at the Botanical Gardens here in Norfolk but I only have to look out back to see them landing on the lake behind my house. Norma Wilson Original Oil Watermelon Slice, Fruit

Today was a bit calmer...I remembered to BREATHE! We had a huge thunderstorm this evening which seems to have cooled things off a bit. I think the grass and flowers are happier too. I seem to have gone on a fruit painting binge. I love these mixed media pieces that are black acrylic background and the fruit are brightly colored oil. This one is one of my favorite summer fruits to eat and to paint. It is a 6 by 6 on wrap around camvas and is currently on auction on eBay. Click to Bid!

Norma's Original Oil White Irish Cow Art

Today was a crazy anxiety ridden day filled with many interruptions, bored teenagers, a comedy of errors with boxes trying to ship a painting which took MOST of the day and a house turned upside down! Once I got to my easel....it all kind of came clear again....exactly WHY I do all of this. Pure joy! Tomorrow I will try harder to BREATHE! It's about the journey, right?? Hope you are all surviving the heat and enjoying the journey... Today's piece is a 12 by 12 on wrap around canvas and is on auction on eBay!Click to Bid!

Irish Cow Cattle Animal 2

Today's post is another one of my favorite white Irish Cows. This one is also 16 by 20 which is a different format that I am trying. It would make a nice companion piece to the other white cow which has a couple of days to go on auction on eBay. This one listed this evening. Hope you all had a nice day on the 4th of July. It was a lovely day here....today was much hotter and stickier. There were oodles of fireworks around here. They can be purchased legally over the border in North Carolina! Have a great day and thanks as always for checkin in!

County Kerry White Cow Art

Today's post was inspired from photos sent to me from my friend Barbara who lives off the coast of Kerry on Valentia in Ireland. A year ago I was inspired to begin painting cows from all the wonderful cows I saw on my trip over there. She was kind enough to send me the cows that are grazing in the field behind her home this summer. Each one is unique and has their own wonderful character. That is what I am trying to capture when I paint them. Many of them...I could find in a field from the paintings I do....they become so familiar to me during the process. This piece is a departure from my usual square format and I am pleased with the new size. It is a 16 by 20 original oil on gallery wrap canvas. I do an under coat of red acrylic and you can see the red peeking throuh in places. Hope you enjoy. Have a great week!
