Norma Wilson Original Oil Curly Cow Approaches

18" by 24" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

This gal caught my eye and I really enjoyed trying to "describe" in paint....all that curly hair. She looks like a close cousin to a sheep! Hope you like her. If you are interested in this piece, please contact me at normasart@cox.net

Black Labrador Face to Face

10" by 10" on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

I painted this piece using my favorite model, my grandpuppy, Brewsky. I love this pose as I know he is using every bit of restraint to hold himself in check....usually for a treat such as a bone or tomato...or an orange! The tail is moving ever so slightly and every now and then, he gives a muffled squirmy squeal. He also looks like this right before he is about to shower you with more love and affection than you every imagined! His sheer joy and enthusiam for being alive is pretty contagious and he keeps us all in stitches. Yesterday it was 5:00 and his internal clock was going off....Dinner Time!!!! There was NO controlling him. He was racing around the house, up on my son's bed and jumping in the air like a pole vaulter onto his couch and back and clumsily onto the floor over and over. Come to think of it, if I did this before my meals, I'd never gain an ounce! :-)

I just know someone will see this painting and think it looks just like their black lab. He is classicaly handsome and looks like he just stepped off the cover of Field and Stream magazine! Spoken like a true grandmother! Have a great day!

If you are interested in this piece or commissioning one of your pet, contact me at normasart@cox.net. I will probably post to eBay in the next few days.

I also wanted to mention that anyone local interested in art lessons, I will be teaching private and semi-private at my new studio in Portsmouth. We can talk about hours and all the details. Norma Wilson Original Oil Peony Floral Still Life Art

Tonight's post is a 10" by 10" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted. It is currently on auction on ebay. I have always loved these flowers and it was great fun painting them. I had a good day today in my studio at home shipping paintings in the morning and spending time in touch with clients online. I spent quite a bit of time today gathering references and planning future works and came jup with this one late in the afternoon. Sometimes the best ones just happen when I thought I would be doing something completely different. Tomorrow I plan to go to my studio in Portsmouth to spend the day doing some painting there. They have some tables outside and I will try painting out there if is doesn't rain. Hope you week is going well! Click to Bid!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Pink Flamingo Bird Art

Tonight's post is a 14" by 18" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

What a gorgeous day it was today here in Virginia. I reworked the background on this flamingo to reflect how I felt today......downright tropical! I spent the afternoon in my new studio getting caught up on paperwork but also got in a nice walk around Portsmouth and enjoyed spending time with fellow artists. Some were working on portraits others on tropical fish and another on a tribute to Native Americans for our upcoming "Freedom" themed show. Great fun!

I came home to a dinner I had set up in the crock pot. I have usually been disappointed with my crock pot attempts but this was delicous. I put cube steak with sliced onions, green peppers, canned chopped tomoatoes, and monterey steak spice into it on low all day. It is so nice to come home to the smell of something cooking! If anyone has a good crock pot recipe....I'd love to hear about it!!!! Ideas for future subject matter for my paintings is great also! Have a super Friday.

Norma Wilson Original Oil Black Bear Animal Art

Tonight's post is a 12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted. It is currently on auction on eBay.

It has been a really busy day so far organizing the house and the studio. I worked on this piece yesterday changing the background from a lighter green and I like the results. It has sort of an Americana look to it now. I still have more work to do organizing my work area and getting some things ready to take to my second studio in Portsmouth. My biggest achiles heel is the record keeping for taxes and bills. I think when I get to a place of hiring some help...that will be the first job I will turn over. That and the grocery shopping! :-) Click to Bid!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Gosport White Cow Art

Tonight's post is a 20" by 20" original that I painted yesterday at my Gosport demonstration. I really enjoyed working outside next to the harbor with the breeze blowing and the sound of the boats bobbing up and down and the ferry coming back and forth from Norfolk. The wind got pretty hard close to the end of the day and some smaller paintings fell off the display racks. That's when I knew it was time to clean up. I liked this cow as she looks like she is not really a baby calf but not quite an "adult" yet. I like her expression and I kept the background red and I usually begin my paintings on a red background.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mother's out there and hope you have a fantastic week!
If you are interested in this painting, please contact me!

My Studio

I decided to post my new studio this tonight as I did not get a painting finished today. Today was my teaching day at Harbor's Edge and tonight I have been having a great time visiting with my sons. My oldest is home for the weekend and my middle son is home from college for the summer with my grandpuppy. He has been entertaining us all and just ate my snack when I was distracted.

Tomorrow is such a busy day and I have not even begun to prepare for it. I will be manning the tent at Gosport Art Festival in Portsmouth for the Chesapeake Bay Art Association. I am doing a demonstration and have to gather my materials and be down there by about 8:00. My dilemma is always...is it better to just go to bed and get up REALLY early or is it better to get it all ready and THEN go to bed. I am worn out but I know it will be a fun day tomorrow.

My youngest son is celebrating his 16th birthday with his friends tomorrow night with a movie and cake and ice cream. His actual birthday is on Sunday. The year he was born it did not fall on Mother's Day but I thought it would be an awesome present.

Well, have a terrific weekend!

Norma Wilson Original Oil White Lab Dog By The Pool

Tonight's post is a new size and painting surface for me. I decided to do a summer series on archival mat board that has been gessoed several times. I enjoy the look of oil on paper. I love the texture and how it looks with a mat surrounding the image. It is a fun surfact to paint on and I chose 5" by 5" because it is a bit smaller than most of mine and can be matted up to an 11 by 14. If you are interested in this piece and would like a different size matt such as a square mat, let me know.

Norma Wilson Original Oil White Irish Kerry Cow Art

14" by 18" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted. This piece was just listed on eBay. I had a great painting day today in my home studio. Andrew had a soccer game tonight too. They lost but it was a beautiful day and such fun to sit out in the evening breeze and be a part of the gathering. I felt very grateful for all my boys and all the fun I have had watching them play soccer. Hope you week is going well. I will be busy painting again tomorrow during the day and also getting ready for Sean and Brewsky coming home for the summer. I have to batton down all the hatches as my grandpuppy is quite a character. He is full of endless energy and loves to give very sloppy kisses. Nite.

Norma Wilson Original Oil Brown Cow Aglow Art

18" by 24" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

This piece is now in my store at http://www.normasfineart.com/. I loved the intense expression on this cow's face and the way the light made her glow.

Today was such a busy day! I got down to my new studio by 10:00 after walking Bailee and then racing around my house trying to organize what I needed to take with me. The electricity was not working so my painting was a bit of a challenge. Then my friends, Roxanne, her daughters, and Barbara met me for lunch at a really wonderful restaurant in Portsmouth called Cafe Europa. We ate outside which was so nice with the spring breeze. Afterwards I returned to paint a bit and then headed to Suffolk for Andrew's soccer game. Since then I have been painting and photographing paintings and contacting clients about paintings they are interested in buying. Whew! Now it is time to go to bed and start over tomorrow. I am so grateful to be doing what I love! Tomorrow night is First Friday in Portsmouth so if you live nearby, stop by and see me at Olde Towne Art Studios next to the bakery!
