Norma Wilson Original Oil Llama Animal Portrait Art

Sunlit Llama

12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

I really had such a productive day yesterday working on several paintings but I think this gal was my favorite. Such a proud face! It is so much fun being an artist because you never quite know what it going to happen when you put brush to canvas and begin to create a rapport with your subject. In the beginning it is pretty technical and formulaic but quickly after the initial lay in the wonderful dance begins. It is hard to describe but it is pretty terrific. Occasionally the dance is kind of rough and there is more stepping on each other feet happening but for the most part, even those times usually resolve happily if you take time to breathe and back up a bit. Well it is almost time for yoga class. Thanks for checking in with me!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Calf Cow Landscape Portrait

Calf In The Meadow

12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

What fun I had working on this sweet little calf. I painted it using an angled brush and love how it turned out! Sometimes you just have to change things up a bit and do something different even if it is only using a different brush! I am also loving two greens that I got in the Rembrant line of paints. It is very creamy and such a lovely soft color when combined. This has been a great weekend that has flown by as always. I started my day yesterday taking another yoga class and I am so glad to be back to the practice once again. I've been enjoying my walks with a neighbor friend and Andrew scored at his indoor soccer game today. Hope your weekend was a good one.

Norma Wilson Original Oil Sheep Lamb Pastoral Landscape

Mother And Child

18" by 24" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

What a busy day! I began the day with a walk and then put a delicious dinner in the crockpot

that was chicken with cranberries, orange, cinnamon, and chile sauce. I am loving my new crockpot and can't think it is great but smelling all that great food when you are HOME is tough. I actually broke down and had some for an afternoon snack too. I almost finished two paintings. I will be posting a little wren tomorrow night. Then, I had my hair cut and painted some more. Here it is at 10:00 and I am watching Anderson Cooper while I listed and write this blog. Wish I had a little helper to clean my brushes. Some people find it relaxing after a long day to clean brushes. I have tried freezing them, covering them in saran wrap, and just plain ignoring them. That is not the best option. Well, hope your week has been a good one and that you have someting fun to do over the weekend. I really enjoyed working on this mother sheep and her baby. I have three wonderful "babies"....the youngest will leave the nest next year and some of my best memories were having them huddle close to me sharing life and nature. It just brings a smile to my face!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Moiled Cow Cattle Portrait

Inauguration Cow

12" by 12' original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Today I woke at 5:50 to learn that school was canceled due to the winter storm that was set to hit us. I went back to sleep thinking of how great it would be to be cozy in the house and be able to paint and watch the inauguration with Andrew. We were cozy and enjoyed the festivities immensely but not one snow flake was spotted! You have to love the south. We don't like to mess with snow! Hope your day was a good one. I named this cow Inauguration Cow because I painted her while enjoying such a wonderful new beginning for our country. Enjoy! Thanks for checking in with me!

Clementine, Cherries, And Blue

6" by 6" original oil on gallery wrap canvas with 1 and 3/4 inch sides painted.

Well, I had so much fun working with thick impasto paint and palette knives that I did it again tonight. It sure is cold here in Chesapeake. My son called to tell me that they were without water up in Blacksburg, Virginia where he is in school at Virginia Tech because it was 2 degrees this morning! Well, hope your weekend goes well. It's time to clean my palette knives and brushes and call it a night so I can get up for yoga tomorrow morning. It's been awhile but I am excited to get back into good habits!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Kiwi Fruit Still Life Art

Kiwi & Red Study

6" by 6" original oil on gallery wrap canvas with 1 and 3/4 inch sides painted.

Recently I have been inspired by fellow artists who use palette knifes and thick paint in their work and decided to do a still life using both this evening. One of my collectors requested that I do a kiwi painting and my favorite color is red so I had to add a touch of red! It was great fun and I can hardly wait to paint tomorrow. I think it will be a floral or perhaps another fruit still life. Unbelievably it is the weekend again! It is supposed to be a very chilly one too. Sean and Brewsky went back to college today. It is very quiet! I am wading through the laundry and straightening up. They will be back soon for Spring Break. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Red Fox Animal Portrait Art

FOXY LADY!

10" by 10" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Wow, I love this foxes eyes! We have a fox in our neighborhood that I see sometimes when Bailee and I go for a walk. It is always at night and I don't get to see her eyes. She is usually running pretty fast in the other direction. Bailee is pretty small but kind of scarey! :-) Well, I am finally feeling like I am in the swing of things again. After two years as a daily painter, I think I kind of had a melt down of motivation and ideas. Hope your week is going well and thanks so much for checking in with me!

Norma Wilson Original Oil White Cow Cattle Animal

White Cow From Tramore

12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted

This cow flew off of my brushes onto the canvas and I enjoyed using my new green Rembrant oil paint that I discovered on my trip to Jerry's Artarama. I love its warmth and it has a wonderful flowing quality which made for interesting brushwork in the background. I named it after a place where I loved to visit in my childhood where we would visit the seaside and country fields which dotted the shore.

Norma Wilson Original Oil Grey Wolf Wildlife Animal Art

Night Of The Grey Wolf

12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

I absolutely love painting faces....animals, birds, & people. I haven't posted many people but hope to do more in the near future. I loved working on this wolf and decided to learn more about them. Here are some interesting facts I gleaned from a site on the web dedicated to saving wolves in the wild.

The wolf is the largest member of the canine family. Gray wolves range in color from grizzled gray or black to all-white. As the ancestor of the domestic dog, the gray wolf resembles German shepherds or malamutes. Wolves are making a comeback in the Great Lakes, Northern Rockies and Southwestern United States. Wolves live, travel and hunt in packs of 4-7 animals on average. Packs include the mother and father wolves, called the alphas, their pups and several other subordinate or young animals. The alpha female and male are the pack leaders that track and hunt prey, choose den sites and establish the pack's territory. Wolves develop close relationships and strong social bonds. They often demonstrate deep affection for their family and may even sacrifice themselves to protect the family unit.
Wolves have a complex communication system ranging from barks and whines to growls and howls. While they don’t howl at the moon, they do howl more when it’s lighter at night, which occurs more often when the moon is full. Hope you enjoy this wolf and tonight's awesome full moon!
