Norma Wilson Original Oil Chincoteague Duck at Sunset

SOLD

Chincoteague Duck At Sunset

6" by 6" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Every year, my artist friends and I head to Chincoteague for a "paint out" that ends in a show and is run by Nancy West who owns a gallery there and it has become quite well known drawing many artists and patrons. I saw this duck among many others holding up traffic and he was the only white duck and the light was hitting him just so...I had to paint him!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Calf Cow Portrait Art

 SOLD

Beautiful Babe

12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Hope you had a great weekend! I went to a concert at the beach and it was so much fun! The group we saw was Family Stone which had two original members from Sly And The Family Stone and had forgotten how many hits they had and the best part is the concert was free! They are having one concert a day for the whole summer by different artists. I hope to go again over the 4th of July.
I also was able to paint quite a bit so feel quite good starting the week out strong. I take more paintings up to Richmond this week to Gallery 5800 and plan to paint outside on Thursday with some artist friends. Our subject matter is boats! It should be a really busy and fun week. Happy Monday!

Roll Over

I am shamelessly posting a video showing my dog Bailee and my grandpuppy Jet. Well...I think it is cute! I worked on a painting today that is going up to Gallery 5800 next week so I thought I would share this video. I only wish I knew how to make the sound go away with my giggling in the background. It was the first time I have taken a video with my new camera. I hope to video my next painting which is a commission and my client wants to see the progression. I think I need more practice! Perhaps I can post it in stages but eventually want to learn how to speed up a painting video as it would be terribly long to watch! Hope you had a great day! I am watching this while watching NCIS. Can't wait til the new season starts!

Boat Study

Boat Study

More thoughts about being at the beach today. I like this piece as it makes me think of adventures not yet taken....summer days filled with possibilities. Perhaps I have a bit of Huckleberry Finn in me and like to think of the freedom to pack a lunch and take a boat out into the water and float out into blue green waters for a day of exploration....want to join me? Norma Wilson Original Oil Starfish Sea Creature Ocean

Hidden Treasure

11" by 14" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

"Happiness depends more in the inward disposition of mind than on the outward circumstances." Benjamin Franklin

I really like this quote and it is a good one to post on the frig as I know I tend to forget this sometimes....wanting to control outcomes at times...thinking I know what will make me or others happy. :-) It can be like a switch in the brain to chose happy over unhappy. I experienced it today when my grandpuppy decided to give my tomato plant a bit of a "pruning". Needless to say....there will be no tomatoes this summer from this plant. My friend, Barbara, had given it to me as a tiny plant that she had started from seed. I was feeling a lot of pride that I had watered it every day and you would have thought no one else on the planet had such a perfect plant...I became very "attached". When it happened, I made a bit of an "issue" about it with my son and pretty quickly realized that I had a choice to be happy and spread happiness or do just the opposite. Feeling good and spreading cheer is definitely better but sometimes the opposite is SO tempting! If you are reading this Barbara, I HAVE taken steps to protect the herbs! Enjoy the weekend!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Yellow Warbler On A Limb

Speak Up!

Fun day painting with my friend, Adele, and a run to my favorite art store, Jerry's Artarama. I picked up a couple of new paint colors. I think it must be similar to a cook finding a new spice and looking forward to trying it in a new dish! Some artists work with a limited palette but I began my art career as a pastel artist and had SO many beautiful colors at my fingertips so I became a bit spoiled. Sometimes it is a fun challenge to work with a limited palette but as a rule.....bring on the rainbow of colors!!
I did get out and cut back the old blooms on my roses and trimmed my rosemary bushes...such a wonderful fragrance! Tomorrow I am going to tackle some more weeds and fertilize. I spied a robin and had my camera in hand on my way out today but didn't quite make it in time. I think I will fill my bird feeders tomorrow. Andrew and I saw a bird taking a bath in our bird bath the other day. They really look like they totally delight in the experience.....the joy of the present moment!

Real Rockin Rooster

Real Rockin Rooster!

12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Today I actually worked a 9 to 5 schedule painting all day in my studio. I was very proud of myself and celebrated by going for a bike ride....well after an episode of NCIS. I really am hooked on the re-runs and can't wait for the new season to begin! The weather has been holding out with little humidity and no rain today! My herbs, tomatoes, and geraniums have been quite pleased with it all. The knockout roses have not been blooming as much but I need to put down some more fertilizer.
I really love the texture and color of this new rooster!!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Little Chick A Dee!

My Little Chick A Dee!

This might date me a little but I remember W.C Fields saying this line in an old time movie! He of course, was not addressing a baby chick! I began this little chick awhile back and put it aside for a bit....the jury is still out on if it is finished or not...might tweek it a bit tomorrow.
Today was very productive on the home front which began with cleaning out the frig by taking everything out and washing all the shelves and then going to the store and stocking up a bit. Andrew is out of school and I wanted to get in some groceries. It
just astounds me how much teenage boys eat...especially after a day
at the beach! I also managed to get some windows cleaned, ride my
bike and paint! I really don't see myself cleaning those brushes though..
where are those elves when you need them??? Think I will go get a snack
and call it a day. If you are interested in this piece, e-mail me at normasart@cox.net.

Norma Wilson Original Oil English Robin Bird Art

Sweet Bird On A Limb

6" by 6" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Keep a green tree in your heart and perhaps a singing bird will come.
- Chinese Proverb

I am not sure if this little bird sings but he looks like he sure looks like he has a song to share and I think he sure is sweet!

I had a great day today at a pool party with my son and friends and feel very restored and ready to begin another busy week! Thanks for stopping by and hope you have a great Monday!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Valentia Cow Cattle Art

Valentia Neighbor Cow

I REALLY had fun with this painting after being out of my studio for several days attending to my home which sorely needed some attention. Keeping it all in balance is quite a challenge but I know I am not alone in that. I worked most of the day so I can take off tomorrow and go to a friend's pool party. So back to this painting...my friend Barbara send along some pictures of her new "friend" she had met on a walk...this beautiful cow which grazes near her home. I began with brushes and then switched to a palette knife and at the end did some finishing touches with a brush again. You will be seeing the other piece I worked on today when I do my post tomorrow. I also spent time on a commissioned piece. Hope your weekend has been restorative and enjoyable!

Rooster Head

12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

This piece was done as a commission for a client in Canada and it was the first rooster head I ever did this size and am really tickled with it. I have not painted as much as usual this week as I am working quite a bit on the home front. I decided to clean the carpets myself using a dry system and it feels great but I feel like I ran a marathon...or the closest I will ever get to that! :-) Once, I started that...everything else called to me to clean and paperwork to plow through and boxes in the garage to break down and changing things around in my studio....zzzzzzzz Well, tomorrow is another day and more to do...there never seems to be an end to that to do list...is there??? In the next weeks I plan to work on a newsletter and some prints! If you are in Richmond...check out Gallery 5800!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Itty Bitty Yorkie

Itty Bitty Yorkie

ACEO 2.5 by 3.5 canvas board

I am just tickled with this little face and the format of this painting. It is a miniature that is
the size of a trading card and many people collect them and either frame them with a mat board
up to a 5 by 7 or in a standard frame or even under the glass of a coffee table. It would make a very sweet gift for a yorkie owner or animal lover as well.

We had a big storm today and it cooled off quite a bit which is good as my air conditioner is on the fritz upstairs again. My son, Patrick, and his dog, Jet headed back to Harrisonburg as well. Jet really enjoyed his trip to to the Outer Banks and time spent frolicking in the waves.

I had a busy day of errands and studio time with work done on several pieces.

On My Way To Waterford

On My Way To Waterford

24" by 30"

This piece is in my personal collection and was done from memory and photographic reference of a special place in Waterford, Ireland where my mother was born and a bunch of my relatives live. My family is a large Irish family on that side of the ocean and I have such warm memories of time spent there. I loved the rugged stone wall against such a serene setting. I hope to go back there again soon but in the meantime this painting transports me there!

We had a busy weekend with sand soccer at the beach. It was great to spend time listening to the waves crashing and I love to watch the children experiencing the wonder of the ocean for the first time as they venture out and race back in trying to beat the waves back to shore!

Today was a day of reflection in my studio...what to paint next and getting in some much needed art supplies. I got started sketching in a couple of new ones but did not finish anything new. I am excited to work on a starfish....inspired by my trip to the beach.

One of the new galleries that is carrying my work is having an opening this Friday. Gallery 5800 on Grove Avenue in Richmond if you are nearby! Happy Tuesday!

p.s. just realized my image was too small so I will photograph the original again in the daylight tomorrow. :-0

Tanner

Tanner

This piece was commissioned for a young man's birthday present and I just finished it last week. I think he will be very surprised and his Mom tells me that the two are inseparable!

Today I made a run up to Richmond to deliver some more paintings. If you are in the Richmond area please stop by Gallery 5800 and tell them I sent you! :-) I am looking forward to time at the beach this weekend with Andrew playing sand soccer. Perhaps some beach themed paintings will find their way into my blog this week! Have a wonderful weekend!
