Norma Wilson Original Oil Snowy Owl Bird Art

Snowy Owl

18" by 24" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.
This piece is my first owl and I had alla prima much fun with it! It is not quite finished as I began later in the day. I work  on most of my pieces which is a fancy way of saying that I strive to finish a painting in one sitting or day with breaks throughout the day but I began this one later and I don't do well after about 11 at night so I will be tweeking it a bit tomorrow...especially the feathers on the side and the feet! I actually had a request from a client in Richmond who wanted me to take a painting of an owl to my gallery up there the next time I go up which is next week. I will definitely do another one as I love their proud faces and the snowy owls have such pretty contrast. It is so hard to believe that tomorrow is Friday again! Hope your week has been a good one. Tomorrow is my last day to subscribe or comment for this month's drawing for a free painting. I will announce the winner on Saturday! Thanks to everyone who has participated!

I was really tickled with the color inspirations for this piece and for the lights and shadows that developed as I worked.

We had lots of much needed rain here today! It has been a great day to let the creative juices percolate and I am sitting down to my easel to put paint to canvas. Hope your week has been a good one!

Norma Wilson Bird Art

English Robin For You!
SOLD

6" by 6" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

One of my favorite subjects to paint! This morning I began my day down at the oceanfront riding my bike along the boardwalk with a friend of mine. It was really hot but so much fun to see all the vacationers and locals like us enjoying the beautiful summer day. I was home and back to work after lunch. I worked on several paintings, large and small and even began a new one of an owl which has been requested by my gallery in Richmond. I am excited to work more on it tomorrow. This piece can be purchased for 125.00 which includes shipping and handling.

Norma Wilson Rooster Art

SOLD

Rooster In The Spotlight!

7" by 11" on multimedia art board which could be matted and framed or framed directly and does not require glass over it!

I first discovered this new painting surface at a workshop taught by Dorothy Fagan. I loved how her oil paints looked on it and then when I painted with Laura Dietrick at her house she was so enthusiastic about it and gave me this piece to work on. I will definitely be working with it more on future paintings. Here is some information on the board from Jerry's Artarama site.
"This is the latest innovation in the materials you can use to paint on in virtually any media. This product is made from a mixture of paper pulp and thermal set epoxy resin. It may be painted upon with oil or acrylic color without pre-priming and when pre-dampened is a highly dependable surface for the watercolorist. In fact this sheet will not buckle so it does not require pre-stretching.

This product will not yellow, is Acid-Free, Neutral pH balanced and will not deteriorate since it will not absorb water! Use it on the lightbox for tracing since it’s translucent. Multimedia Artboard will also bring out the brilliant colors in your designs, will hold a definite edge and will never bleed." Norma Wilson Cow Art

Greener Pastures
SOLD
12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.
What a great weekend! Spent time with Jet as Pat went off to the Outer Banks for the weekend with friends. The weather was pretty mild for these parts on Saturday so Jet and Bailee hung out on the deck while I painted and worked some more on the house. I even got out and killed some weeds today which were reaching beyond all reasonable limits. I am still waiting on Andrew to get home from his trip to Germany with his Dad and last I heard they had lost their luggage. That is so hard when you have made such a long journey! It sounds like it was an amazing trip and I can't wait to hear all about it. I had a great time with the palette knife again with this piece and fun with color! I will probably be sending this to a gallery but if you would like more information...be the first to e-mail me at normasart@cox.net! SOLD

Norma Wilson Itty Bitty Rooster

Itty Bitty Rooster
SOLD

5" by 7" original oil on museum board.

Another busy day working on home projects and fun with Jet. Patrick took him for a walk tonight and he said he walked through a swarm of bugs with Jet panting and getting a few swallows of extra protein! Aren't you glad we breathe through our noses most of the time? I love to paint little roosters and this one makes me smile! Hope your week has been going well. I can't believe it is the weekend again! I look forward to teaching tomorrow!

Painting Day With Friends NFDP

I do not have a painting to share today as I have been taking a few days to work on some
house projects and spend time with my son and grandpuppy but thought I would post a couple of pictures of my friends and I painting at the home of fellow artist, Laura Dietrick. Her work can be found at http://lauratovardietrick.blogspot.com. She hosted a luncheon for us with delicious crab soup and had some fun painting together. Cass Lippa does beautiful paintings in watercolor and oil and is the director of Olde Towne Art at http://www.oldetowneart.com. Joel Cohen took our pictures and does wonderful pictures which can be seen at his site at http://www.joelcohenart.blogspot.com

Standing By Mom

Standing By Mom

12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

This piece is a calf which was standing by her Mom in a field in Blacksburg, Virginia. My son, Sean, who is living up there since graduating from Virginia Tech took a photograph of this little calf that I used it for inspiration. I liked her black spot circling her eye...it reminds me of the dog in Spanky and Our Gang. I am dating myself again. It was a Jack Russell terrier, I believe. I may add a couple of touches to it tomorrow. I have been having fun with Jet and Patrick since he moved home a few days ago and have not been in the studio in a few days. Today Pat filled a baby pool and he was having a great time jumping in and circling around so much that he would fall out of it! I tried taking video but my camera battery was low. I will try again tomorrow. I also worked on a large commission today and got in some new canvas and paint! All in all, a good day of work....and fun! If you are interested in this piece, e-mail me at normasart@cox.net.

Norma Wilson Original Oil Bovine Lady Cow Painting

SOLD

Bovine Lady

12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

I loved the softness of this cow and the expression I saw in her face.

Earlier today I met my friend, Adele, and we painted at a marina in Portsmouth. It was so pretty and great to be outside with all the sounds of the boats bobbing up and down and the birds overhead. I didn't complete the painting yet but might go back next week and hope that the boats will be in the same spot! I am definitely excited about finding more places around Hampton Roads to paint. We decided next time, we would end up having lunch at a place near our destination! If you are interested in this painting, e-mail me at normasart@cox.net!

What fun I had with this piece with lots of rich color as well as sublte greys. I enjoyed using the palette knife and using a lot of thick paint! I think it looks like a very proud rooster!

Today was a busy day with a trip to Richmond and tomorrow promises to be another exciting day of painting outside in Portsmouth with boats as out subject matter. I will let you know tomorrow how it goes.
