Rooster On Parade

11" by 14" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

In dreams, the Rooster is considered a time-keeper and is a sign of time passing in our lives. Hearing a Rooster's voice in our dreams may indicate we need a wake-up call, and need to pay attention to some circumstances in our lives. Seeing a brilliantly plumed Rooster in our dreams indicates it is time to let others discover our true selves, and strut our stuff (show our talents) to others.
I thought this was an appropriate symbol as we are on the verge of another year's
passage.  For many it is a time to look back at what has transpired in the previous year and also to set new goals or perhaps dust off some old goals and begin anew putting our best foot forward!  Hope you have a safe and Happy New Year!

 Schnauser Angel

10" by 10" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.
I am working slowly back into a routine after the holidays.  I worked on two paintings
and picked some pictures to start my challenge of painting people...most especially women
in their golden years.  I was going to start with my Mom but found that it was too tough still
to think about doing that so I may start with my aunt.  I need to check with her to see if it is o.k first.
It has been awhile since I have painted people faces so I may spend some time sketching first.  This painting if available by contacting me at normasart@cox.net for information and I also do custom pet potraits of you pooch or kitty if you send me a picture!  Thanks for stopping by!

Cow Reclining

6" by 8" original oil on canvas board

I am posting this piece today that is still a work in progress.  It just needs some tweeking but I wanted to do a post and wish everyone a WONDERFUL holiday season!  I still have some more purchases to make and some stocking stuffers but the tree looks great.  I broke down and got an artificial one this year and have been pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it is and so much easier to set up!  My son who lives in Northern Virginia gets in this afternoon with my grandpuppy Brewsky.  Can't wait to see them and get a greeting that only Brewsky can give!  Hope you holidays are filled with love and joy and I an not sure when I will post again...it may be a few days.  I am excited about some new challenges for the coming year and will share them with you in future postings.  Thanks as always for stopping by!  Happy Holidays!!!

Red Bird

6" by 6" on wrap around canvas with sides painted making framing optional.

"I have been in love with painting ever since I became conscious of it at the age of six.  I drew some pictures which I thought fairly good when I was fifty, but really nothing I did before the age of 70 was of any value at all.  At seventy-three, I have at last caught every aspect of nature -- birds, fish, animals, insects, trees, grasses, all.  When I am eighty I shall have developed still further, and will really master the secrets of art at ninety.  When I reach one hundred my art will be truly sublime, and my final goal will be attained around the age of onehundred and ten, when every line and dot I draw will be imbued with life."     Hokusai (1760-1849)

My friend and fellow artist, Gina Buzby shared this quote with me. It really spoke to me about having goals but then enjoying the journey.  We are students of life as long as we have breath left in us!  Yesterday I had fun with the ladies I teach at Harbor's Edge and we were brainstorming about things to learn and try in the New Year with our painting.  One of the things I have always wanted to do is paint small portraits of women who are seniors as they have lived and loved and seen so much!  If you have any pictures to share with me of someone who would be willing to have me paint them or even from an old picture of someone no longer living, please send it to me at normasart@cox.net.  I can't promise to paint all of them but I will give them a try.  This is one of the goals that is formulating in my mind for the New Year.  Thank you!  Have a wonderful weekend.  p.s. the picture can be close up of the face or a candid shot doing an activity :-)  I have one of my Mom on my screened porch that I started to do as a painting years ago and not I can't find it!!  I will keep searching though as it was a perfect moment of relaxation with her reading and enjoying her time here visiting.

Albert Schweitzer

At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.

Holiday Gratitude
Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to stop and visit my blog.  I don't have a painting to share today but thought I would share a picture of one of my studen't at Harbor's Edge where I teach on Friday's.  Actually I receive far more than I ever give from this class.  The ladies are so talented and have lived such interesting lives and continue to learn and grow and be engaged in life every day.  This time of year can be very stressful and sad some years.  We are reminded of Christmas' past and those who are no longer with us.  This is my first year without my Mom and I am really missing the
sound of her voice on the phone.  The ladies at Harbor's Edge brighten my week and I always look forward to seeing them.  I am so grateful to my friend who referred me to them and gave me the opportunity to work with them.  Hope you have a day filled with love and people who brighten your day!

Today was a snowy day here in Chesapeake and it was the perfect day to be in my studio painting
all day.  I worked on three pieces and this was the second one I completed.  I loved his expression and
all the colors I saw in his fur.  Pigs have such small eyes in proportion to their bodies but seem to be so
say so much with them!  Hope you enjoy this little guy.  For more information on purchasing this piece or

Master Gardner

Master Gardener

This is a pastel painting that I did awhile back of my neighbor's cat.  She is a master gardener and
told me how often she would find her kitty admiring all the beautiful flowers.  I decided she shared her
owner's passion for gardening.  I think they make a pretty combination in a painting!  For more information on this piece or any of my other paintings, contact me at normasart@cox.net.

One Dalmatian SOLD

SOLD
One Dalmatian

12" by 24" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

This piece is sold. I did it because I always wanted to paint a dalmatian dog and had a blast with the color and a dalmatian lover saw it and purchased it. Sometimes when you just paint what you love, the right person just comes along who needs to own it. I also do pet portraits from your photographs. It makes a nice gift to a loved one or for yourself at the holidays. I offer gift certificates by clicking on

the button to the side of my blog and also am available to take visa and mastercard by phone. Contact me at normasart@cox.net for more information. Hope you have a great Wednesday!
