You Lookin' At Me?

SOLD
 6" by 6" oil
You Lookin' At Me?

This piece is one of my favorites that has been posted before but whenever I look at this face, I smile.  As I had every good intention of painting today but instead found myself back at the doctor's...I decided to post this little guy and get some rest.  So it is more antibiotics, inhalers, and lots of fluids and I will be covered in paint again very soon!

Black Angus

SOLD

Black Angus
 $125

6" by 6" original oil on archival board

How was your weekend?  I worked quite a bit but did manage to take in a movie and had dinner with a friend.  . I also got out on my bike after a long hiatus.  The tires were kind of flat and I couldn't find my bicycle pump! I spent oodles of hours working on my web sites Only a couple more links and pages and I will start work on my newsletter as it is almost March!  My kitty is in my lap again and insists on laying on my arm while I am typing.  I really had a good time working on this Angus. It is so much fun to play with colors on the
dark fur. I guess a cow's hair could be called fur...  I tried something different than my usual toning the canvas with red.  I began with a hot pink color and then accented the same! I like how the bits of pink shows through in places.  It will be a busy week getting ready for the upcoming show at the Artists Gallery... It's Raining Cats and Dogs.  I will be entering several pieces and the opening is this Friday.  Hope you can make it if you live locally.  Have a great Monday!

New Vistas....

 Photobucket

New Vistas

I have been really enjoying these collages!  I think I will make it a practice to do one every weekend highlighting some of my recent works.  Sometimes it is good to see them in a collection and to also highlight a trend.  Lately I have been drawn to painting new vistas...water views!  I have also been working more with a palette knife and lots of texture.  I have been fortunate to live near the water all of my adult life.  I have even considered moving closer to the ocean so I can be inspired daily by the sea.  Hope you are enjoying your weekend and have been doing something fun!
Yesterday I saw the King's Speech.  It was SO good.  I highly recommend it if you have not yet seen it.  Such a wonderful story of triumph and friendship.
I have been adding more paintings to my sold and available categories that can be accessed at the top of my blog and also on the side at the top.  If you are interested in any of these works, you can find them under available works! You can purchase using pay pal or contact me at normasart@cox.net for other options.  Thank you for visiting with me and for all the comments and emails!  Welcome to my new followers and subscribers!

Journey's End

8" by 8" original oil on panel

$195

Yeah...it's the weekend!  Not sure why I enjoy the weekends so much.  I work at home and pretty much do a lot of the same things but it just has a different, more laid back feel on the weekend.  Today was a great Friday painting with my friend Scott who owns a gallery in Ghent. His gallery is so beautiful!   I worked on this boat while he was working on some coy fish.  I love palette knives!!  I switched up and worked on panel instead of canvas and I liked the how the paint applied on the harder surface.  I plan to continue using the boards.  I am also going to be offering table top easels with my smaller pieces in the coming weeks.  I am waiting on my order.  Afterwards, I headed over to Harbor's Edge for class with the ladies.  It was SO windy by the water.  I think March winds came way early this year. Well...have an awesome weekend!  I love all your comments and emails!

Rooster Of Provence

Rooster Of Provence

$295

12" by 12" original oil on wrap around
canvas with sides painted

So many things to do and so little time...that is the way today felt but at the end of the day, I accomplished a bunch and even finished up this rooster!  I think he looks proud standing on a hill with his native land in the background!  I even spent some time with my son, Patrick today and got rid of more stuff!  We pulled out old toys and school stuff which we kept but it brought back some fond memories and we were able to get rid of some junk and make progress on my purging goals!  I do have lots of legos for any grandchildren in my future!

Hope you have been having a great week.  Is is just me or does time seem to be speeding up?  :-)

Sam Seagull Heads The Beach!

Sam Sea Gull Hits The Beach

$125

6" by 6" oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted

Yep...I am late getting this posted as yesterday was another big computer day adding more to my web site and blog and working on my mailing last.  I finished up the evening working on my taxes for this year.  By the end of today I will be able to take them to my accountant which is REALLY early for me.  I have spoken about my new program called called Outright that I found
on the web.  You get 30 days free and it is less than 10 dollars a month but when I found it, it was nothing short of a miracle for me.  I have tried other programs before like Quicken and Quickbooks and paid good money for them only to find that my eyes glazed over and the tears welled up in my eyes and eventually I learned to ignore the icon on my desk top.  This one is SO simple and does most of the work for you...my kind of program...and afterwards you can print out a report to take to your tax man.  Yeah! Well, have a wonderful day and hope where ever you are...you are seeing signs of spring.  Pretty soon we can join Sam Sea Gull and head for the beach!

What A Hoot! SOLD

What A Hoot! SOLD
$125

6" by 6" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted
.
I really did have a HOOT working on this guy.  He really came to life and made
me laugh!  Some days the paintings come out well, some days...not as I had hoped
and sometimes they come to life and entertain me!  This was the later.  Hope you
had some fun in your day too.
Once again, my cat, Rusty, is laying on my typing arm and like the crazy person
that I am....I am letting my arm fall asleep rather than move her.  She only weighs less
than five pounds though and is SO sweet.  She used to hang out in my son's room
all the time before he went off to college and now she likes me!  I guess I don't want
to ruin a good thing...
If you haven't signed up for my daily updates and monthly newsletter, I have started
a monthly painting giveaway for my subscribers!  I have a sign up box on the top right
corner of my blog!  Have a wonderful day!

Cows Come Home

Cows Come Home

6" by 6" oil,
$125

Today was an awesome day all round....started with taking my cat, Rusty to the vet.  She has been sick and the doctor was quite pleased.  She has gained a bit of weight and doing much better.  Then I came home and tackled another monkey!  This monkey was another tax monkey.  I had receipts piled in little piles on the corner of the desk for weeks waiting for me to enter them into my new program at outright.com.  I love it and have kept up with this year really well on a daily basis but had to enter in all
the receipts and invoices for 2010 and I did it!  Yeah!  Another monkey bites the dust.  After that, I had the most wonderful consultation with Leslie Saeta, a fellow daily painter, who is a wonderful artist, teacher, and marketing guru.  I learned SO much and can't wait to implement all the ideas she shared as well and fix some problems on my blog and web site.  I was feeling so good that I went into my studio and painted this little cow which I think has an endearing face and I am quite pleased.  Thanks so much for checking in with me.  I will be in my studio all day again tomorrow working on a pet portrait commission and more of my challenges.  Have a great day!

Come With Me To The Sea....
$195
8" by 8" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Today I took a trip without leaving home!  I knew I wanted to do something else involving water after my painting on Friday so I looked for a doorway that would inspire me and created the scene beyond.  As artists we may be inspired by something but the cool part is, that we can use our imaginations and make a place where we can invite others to join us....so come along with me...to the sea! The weather is perfect and the water is just perfect!

Norma Wilson Fine Art Seascapes

Beach Dreams
This piece will be in the Artists Gallery show in April and is
featured on their postcard.

8" by 8" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.
Are you ready for long walks along the beach right about now?  Long for nights with the sun setting around 9 o'clock?  Working on this piece brought up the feel of the sand between my toes and the sound of the surf....I am so lucky to live only thirty minutes fro the ocean.  In fact I took the picture I used for inspiration on a trip to Virginia Beach not to long ago.  I am loving the fun of using palette knives and lots of textural paint!
I had a great time again today painting with friends and teaching my ladies at Harbor's Edge.  We worked on portraits using watercolor paper and charcoal.  I am excited to relax this weekend after a very productive week.  Hope you can do the same!  Let me know if you are interested in any of my paintings....still time to overnight one for your Valentine!!

Norma Wilson Custom Pet Portrait Art

Tabby Eyes
$295
12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

It is almost midnight and the cat and dog have given up on me and went to bed without me but I was determined to get this one posted.  This is challenge 82 of Carole Katchen's book 200 Great Painting Ideas For Artists....Paint your Pet.  This is my little tabby cat Rusty Girl who has been very sick but is bouncing back very well.  She was so hungry tonight that she tried to claw her way up my leg while I was painting....patience is not her virtue.  Anyway she was not a hard challenge as I have painted her before and found good homes for her likeness...she has that familiar face!  If you are interested in pricing information on this piece or another one of my paintings, contact me at normasart@cox.net.
I only purged 32 things today...I am slipping but I could barely get my trash can out to the curb...that is a good thing.  Hope you have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend!

Norma Wilson Dog Art

SOLD
Jake The Pound Pup!
12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Such a face! What a cutie.  I thoroughly enjoyed working on this little guy who reminds me of a dog from a movie called, Please Don't Eat The Daisies!  I know I have dated myself with this but it was a cute movie and I love the dog in it!
I had shared with a collector that I was thinking of doing some portraits of dogs that were adopted from the pound or cats actually and she sent me this photo of her dog Jake.  I have decided to donate five percent of all sales to a local rescue group and let you know how  much as it goes on.  I need more photos to keep this going.  The Artist Gallery is having a show next month featuring dog and cat paintings so I can give any my donation to the group that is associated with that show.  It used to be the annual Cat Show but they are including dogs this year as there are so many dogs in need of adoption because of the economy.
Well, the snow has begun and we are supposed to get 2 to 4 inches now.  I am fortunate to work at home and don't have to drive anywhere so I retain that childhood excitement whenever the snow begins.  I went to the store to stock up on some basics and just as I left the store the first flakes began to fall.
Tomorrow will be a big day in my studio finishing another commission and working on a few other paintings that I have started and need my attention. I am still getting rid of 100 things a day...to be honest I lose count but it is pretty close and it feels GREAT.  I am finding all kinds of stuff too!  Hope you have a great day and thank you so much for stopping to visit me!!!  Send me pictures!!! I am also looking for cows, roosters, and anything else you would like to see me paint!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Cow Art

Valentia Cow Strikes A Pose
$295
9" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Been working on two projects the last two days and feel like I could fall asleep at this computer.  My kitty cat, Rusty, is in my lap all warm and cozy which is making the situation worse.  She has been sick the past week with a kidney infection and had to have a tooth removed.  They put her under for it and today is the first day she really felt like socializing.  It is so wonderful to have her feeling like herself again.  I have been working on a special pet portrait that a client is giving to husband and a second portrait of an adorable pound pup.  These have been keeping me busy and I hope to start a new challenge soon from Carole Katchen's book.
My other project is de-cluttering my life.  I have been at it for awhile but over the weekend I got a book called Organization For The Creative Person.  Leslie Saeta mentioned it on her radio show, Artists Helping Artists so I had to get it!  I found that I already do some of the suggestions like making a game out of tasks I don't like to do and picking a number of things that I need to throw away in a given time, etc.  They said that most people have approximately 200,000 things in their home at any given time.  I started thinking about getting rid of stuff when my son moved all his earthly belongings in his car to his new apartment. I don't think I want to go to that extreme but I definitely don't use a lot of things that I have accumulated and so the purge has intensified.  So I have begun getting rid of 100 things a day and I will let you know when I cry uncle.  Some things are only pieces of paper in drawers and objects that I don't even know what they are!  Some things are books and magazines that someone else can enjoy and knick knacks that can be donated....that seemed like a good idea at the time but don't hold any meaning now.  It is crazy the things you find...like three basters.  One year I didn't have one and now I have three!  Well, enough of my ramblings....I will be so light and clutter free soon that I will be floating on air.

Norma Wilson Original Oil Sunset Seascape Art

Day Is Done
$295

8" by 16" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.
How many times have you stopped what you are doing and watched the sunset at night or gotten up in the morning to see it rise?  I know I sure haven't watched enough, considering that they are incredibly majestic.  I think the people who live close to the land without so much technology and stuff to distract them must have felt more close to God just by viewing nature in all its majesty.  I am lucky enough to live with a man made body of water behind my house and love to see the geese coming and going and the sun glistening on the water.  I thoroughly enjoyed working on this piece while spending time with my friends
Barbara Lively Mastaglio and Scott London.  Both work more on landscapes and encouraged me to try this piece and it was so much fun with their enouragement and input.
Last night I attended the opening of the Artists Gallery Show, One Foot Squared, and was happy to have four of my paintings in the show.  It was a great show and so good to catch up with people that I hadn't seen in a very long time.  I got started at the Artist Gallery  almost ten years ago with my first studio space and learned so much from the art world from the very generous guidance of the director and fellow artists.  The show will be up through the end of the month so I hope you will stop in and see it!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Cow Art

Irish Valentine  SOLD
$295

12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Love these big beautiful Irish cows that I first fell for as a child and was reintroduced to at a workshop in Valentia Ireland  run by my good friend, Barbara Lively Mastaglio.  She owns a beautiful house there and you can see these beauties grazing in her back yard overlooking the ocean. That trip began my love affair with painting cows!  Thought this one represented the upcoming holiday!
Tomorrow night I will be attending the show at the Artists Gallery, One Foot Square.  If you live in the area, please stop in!
I had a great day in my studio today working on a pet portrait commission and listening to Artists Helping Artists blog talk radio with Leslie Saeta and Dreama Tolle Perry.  One was on organization for us creative souls....an elusive concept for some of us...and goal setting for 2011.  I highly recommend listening to their programs!

Valentine Kitty

Valentine Kitty  SOLD
6" by 6" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted

Fast forward to challenge # 131 from Carole Katchen's 200 Great Painting Ideas For Artists.....which is to invent or exaggerate colors to create a more exciting design.  I chose to paint a cat from a reference of a black and white kitty and I actually made the photo completely black and white so I could just look at the values...the lights to darks and used mostly red to describe them.  It was pretty frustrating at first but then it became fun.  I thought she made a great Valentine Sweetheart!
Tomorrow I will be dropping off three paintings to the Artists Gallery in Virginia Beach for their One Foot Squared Show which opens this Friday and runs through the month.  I hope you will come out to the opening which begins at 6:30 and goes until 8:30.  It is a beautiful gallery on Norfolk Avenue a couple of blocks from the oceanfront.  Thank you for stopping by!
