#57 Rooster Alert!

Rooster Alert!

This guy looks serious...I'd rise and shine if he told me to!  I had fun with his great coloring and markings and love how he is lit up in the sun!  I had a really busy day starting with working on my newsletter that went out by about 1 o'clock.  Then I painted all afternoon and tonight drew my names for free paintings.  I use ramdom.org to select and just sent emails to January and February's winners.  Isabella and David have been notified and if they give me their permission I will give their full names.  I sent the image of the paintings they have won and will share them with you as soon as I hear back from them  If you would like to be eligible to win a free painting in March and to receive my newsletter....all you have to do is sign up!  There is a sign up at the top of my blog or just send me your email and I will do it.  Have a great Thursday!

Such a face!  Several years ago my friend's and I painted outside in Chincoteague, Virginia and this little kitty was keeping an eye on us and sitting in a beautiful stream of sunlight.  I will be entering a show next month at the Artists Gallery called,  It's Raining Cats And Dogs.  This has gotten me in the mode of painting some cats and dogs.  I think it would be really fun to do this one large as well.  Hope your week is going great!  I am excited to have my son home this weekend for Spring Break from college and I have my grand puppy here for a visit too!  Life is good.

There is something nostalgic about seeing an old boat like this that makes you think of slower times and tells a story of perhaps young children gathering their fishing gear and heading out for the afternoon.  I grew up in the city so I didn't have these experiences personally but I sure dreamt of them and read about them in my favorite books such as Huckleberry Finn.  Hope you are having a relaxing and fun weekend!

This little puffin lives on a place called Skellig Michael off of Valentia Island.  It is a beautiful rock that once was inhabited by an order of Monks.  Visitors climb the side of the rock to visit it and to see these beautiful birds sunning themselves in all their glory.  I usually post a second picture in the daylight as there is a shine on it tonight. Have a wonderful Saturday!

More fun with knives today!  I painted most of this piece using a lot of paint and a palette knife.
Saw some gulls in person today when Bailee and I walked on the beach.  Hard to believe that it is February.  As I walked up the street there were daffodils in bloom everywhere and people on the beach in  chairs enjoying the spring like day.  Hope wherever you are...that you are enjoying the day.

This is one of the beautiful scenes I experienced at my friend, Barbara's house at our artist retreat a few years back.  It is such an incredible place with rolling hills with so many shades of green and gorgeous views of the North Atlantic.  It is a little bit of heaven!  I painted it today with both brush and palette knife...mostly knife so the paint is hick and textural.  Makes me want to go back!  Hope your day was a good one!  Thanks so much for checking in with me!  I think tomorrow I will be working on boats and birds!

Doesn't this pig have a bit of a demure look?  I had so much fun painting her!  I decided to leave the background very much suggested so she would be the star of the show and I am happy with it.  When I was about half way into this painting I laid a paper over it and soaked up some of the paint and I like what that does to the edges and the softness too.  Hope your Tuesday was a good one.  I took Miss Bailee into the vet today.  She is otherwise known as the demon child.  Her separation anxiety has been getting worse
instead of better since our move so I came home with a new dog bed, plug-in pheromones, a "learning toy", and a gentle leader leash.  They saw me coming!  All this in hopes of keeping my shoes from being eaten. :-)

These two gals live on the island of Valentia off of Kerry and my friend, Barbara, who lives part of the year at her home there, brings me pictures of these wonderful cows so I can keep painting beautiful Irish cows.  I love the butter that you can get from this region called Kerry Gold and so I named them after this delicious butter.  It is available in our stores here and it is wonderful!

Today while the rain fell in buckets, I spent the afternoon painting in my studio.
It was a great solace to imagine the sun shining on this beautiful shell making the pink center light up.
I remember putting the shell to my ear as a child to "hear the ocean".  These really are such beautiful shells.  Hope you had a great weekend and were able to stay dry!  Thank you to all my faithful readers and welcome to my new ones!  The numbers at the side of the title indicate how many paintings I have completed this year.  I made a goal to post one a day for the year...now that is making myself accountable!
On the days I want to procrastinate the most are the paintings I enjoy the most!  Hope you have a great Monday and President's Day!

"Jonathan Seagull discovered that boredom and fear and anger are the reasons that gull’s life is so short and with these gone from his thought, he lived a long fine life indeed."

Seagulls have become part of my daily life either seeing them on the beach or at my favorite Burger King where I have a chat with them while I eat my food telling them that they should be eating fresh sea food and then realizing that I should be too!  Have you ever wondered where sea gulls sleep?  I found out where!  At the end of my street on the beach.  They gather in a group of what seems like hundreds and huddle together.  They are there first thing in the morning.  I look up and down the beach and don't see them anywhere else so it must be a good spot to gather.  Here they are the other day.

I photographed the gull above one day and had a lot of fun painting him today.  I painted again down at London Square Gallery with great music on and beautiful painting surrounding me by local artists and some from California and Mexico.  Hope you have a great relaxing weekend!

This lass is from a farm in Kerry, Ireland and she is posing for the camera.  My friend, Barbara, who lives there part of the year was kind enough to take the picture of her and share it with me.  I used the photo for inspiration and changed up her background a bit but I love that she is resting a spell on the grass.  I had a
great evening out at Stravitz Gallery for their Valentine Show and dinner out with friends.  Tomorrow I will be finishing up a commission and working on more of my daily pieces!  I am excited about some new gallery opportunities that I will share with you soon.  Thanks for allowing me to share my daily efforts with you and for those of you that receive my daily posts!  May you have a fantastic start to your week! Many blessings...Norma

This piece is currently in a gallery.

Yes, this is a bit larger than my usual size!  I am worn out!  I got together with my
friend Barbara at London Square Gallery and we painted together.  She was working on a sill life of garlic and cherries and I dreamt of taking a chair down to the beach as soon as it warms up and feeling the warmth of the sun on my face as I worked on this piece!  I noticed that my neighbor's bulbs are almost all the way up today and a little while later, it was snowing!  It really was the first true sign of winter this year other than three days I noticed frost on the ground.  Hope your weekend is going well.  I haven't forgotten my free painting giveaway from last month.  I was wanting to get all my paintings back from the two shows I participated in last month before I sent out a newsletter.  I sold eleven paintings from those shows, one in my gallery in Richmond and two online so far this month!  I am so grateful that they have found good homes and I can stay busy and doing what I love!  Thanks for checking in with me!  If you have not subscribed to be part of the monthly drawings and special offers, you can sign up on the top right of my blog!

Lots of rain and cool breezes here today at the beach.  It was a good day to stay inside and paint and even took an afternoon siesta.  Then I had some dinner and went back to work and finished up this gal who is grazing instead of napping in the beautiful sun along the coast of Ireland.  Occasionally she gets a bite of some shamrocks!  Hope your have a great day!

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” - Steve Jobs

Wow!  I love this quote.  Hope you had a great Tuesday.  I saw the moon tonight and it reminded me of the movie...Bruce Almighty where Jim Carey made the moon way bigger in the sky before lassoing it for her.  It was so big and bright that it didn't seem real.  Kinda made the whole day for me.  Thanks for visiting!  This piece will be going into a show unless someone purchases it before then.  I have a gold plain air frame for it that can be purchased separately if you email me at normasart@cox.net for more info.

I love to drive past fields at twilight and see the cows all lit with that light that glows just before sundown.
I imagine that this gal is just letting out a big mooo.  I had a great day in my studio first taking care of bills and paperwork and then painting for awhile.  It should be a busy week, painting with friends and getting ready for an upcoming show.  I was asked to bring work to a new gallery in Norfolk called The Gallery At East Beach.  That should be happening sometime in May.  I hope you have a terrific Tuesday!

I have not yet listed this on the site of Daily Paintworks but once I do that, I
will have a link to purchase.  I had fun with the colors and made her bike the same color as my beach cruiser.  I imagine that she is just stopped to get some candy at the Sweet Shop!  Hope you had a great weekend!  I have had a lovely restful one and managed to get my closets sorted out a bit.  Doesn't that sound exciting?  I purchased a shelving unit for my studio too.  I have so much stuff in such a small house but gradually I am finding everything and putting it in the right spot.  Have a super Monday!

Beach Dunes

#30 Beach Dunes
8" by 8" original oil on panel
225.

Recently,  I discovered a new type of panel to paint on called Clayboard.  It is very absorbent and
that forces you to work even faster and has a really cool look to the finished painting.  I will definitely be doing more on this surface.  This scene took on a life of its own from a photo I took when out with my dog Bailee and developed into dunes which reminded me of when I spent time in Ireland by the seaside as a child.  We would run up and down the dunes in Tramore and ate by bonfires out there.  Another place we spent the night out under the stars.  I am pleased how this turned out as it felt like it was leading me on an adventure while I painted.  That is a very exciting way to paint.  Tomorrow, I am going to spend the day cleaning up from all this painting and see if I can find some shallow shelving to place all my paintings while they dry.  Welcome to my new subscribers this week.  Thank you to all of you who read my blog, and take the time to comment.  And thank you to my new collectors!  You keep me covered in paint and going on new adventures!  Have a wonderful Friday!  It is the weekend!

More fun today painting a horse.  I loved this pose in a reference I found on wet canvas.com.  She has such a pretty face.  She looks like she is walking in mist and coming to the edge of the woods into the light.  Horses are such beautiful creatures and I used to dream of owning my own horse.  I was a city girl and that was not possible but I have ridden horses in some beautiful places over the years and always loved every minute of it.  I also read every book I could find about horses including the book called "Misty".  She was a wild horse from Chincateague which is only a couple of hours from me up the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Hope you have a great Thursday!  I can't believe another week has gone by already.  Thanks for checking with me!
