The aim of every artist is to arrest motion, which is life, by artificial means and hold it fixed so that a hundred years later, when a stranger looks at it, it moves again since it is life.  ~William Faulkner

It seems that there were not quite enough days in the month for me to get my newsletter out so I will be sending one in early May!  I will be announcing TWO free painting winners at that time for both April and May.  Today I purchased a new Sony camera to help with taking both inspirational photos to paint as well as ones for my web sites and prints.  I did not take this with it but should have it all charged up and ready to go tomorrow.  Delivered more paintings to Norfolk Academy show as I had sold a couple already.  Yeah!  Hope your week is off to a great start.  I am looking forward to next week's visit to my friend Susan in North Carolina and to attending Dreama Tolle Perry's workshop with her!  I have stocked up on some new paints and brushes so I am ready!  I loved this quote about art as have felt that while looking at some of my favorite artists work and in the process of painting my own, have felt a deep connection to my subject..almost as if it were taking on a life of its own.  There are so many ways to be an artist too whether it be with the written word, sculpting, gardening, singing, photography, crafting, etc.  Fun Fun Fun!!!  What are your favorite ways to be creative?

#116 Misty At The Beach

#116 Misty At The Beach
5" by 7" original oil on panel

Two of my favorite things...the beach and horses!  I have gone horse back riding many times but never on the beach so that is on my bucket list!  The next best thing for me is to paint them.  I have always been drawn to subjects up close but perhaps I will do one sometime from a bit of a distance.  My friend Roxanne had a horse out in California that was afraid of the ocean.  Must have been a distant relative of Bailee.  She hears the waves crashing and heads in the other direction.  Imagine if your horse got spooked by a crashing wave!  Anyway, always great fun playing with paint and bringing things to life on the canvas!  Yesterday I mentioned the Norfolk Academy Show and it is actually on Saturday night from six o'clock until eight o'clock.  I am sorry for the mix up! Hope you had fun today and have a great weekend!

#115 Pink Geranium

#115 Pink Geranium
8" by 8" original oil on panel
225.

Today we went to Stoney's which is a local nursery that has the most beautiful flowers and herbs. They also have very creative ways to display your flowers and wonderful containers.  They will have things planted in old chairs and antique sewing machines.  I even saw geraniums growing in a military ordinance box. I was bitten by the gardening bug again when my friend, Claudia so generously gave me some some day lilies from her garden and some rosemary.  Today I picked up some gorgeous pink geraniums for a large pot and some bay leaves and lavender.  Another benefit of growing a garden is being able to paint your flowers and it is always a great learning tool to paint something from real life.
Who knows what I will paint tomorrow...most days I don't have a clue until I get into my studio.  Saturday evening is the opening of the Norfolk Academy art show and I am excited to have four of my paintings in the show.  It goes from 6 to 8 and is at 1585 Wesleyn Drive.  If you are local, I hope to see you there!  Have a great Friday!

#114 Sand Crab Adventure Seascape

#114  Sand Crab Adventure Seascape
14" by 18" original oil on canvas with sides painted

Today's theme for our painting group was seascapes with people.  I first saw these two boys on a trip to South Carolina.  They reminded me of when my boys were little and shared many an adventure on our trips to the ocean.  They loved the little sand crabs that are so speedy as they run along the beach and dig their way into the sand.  I loved playing with all the colors I saw in the water and the texture and movement in the water.  Capturing the moment that the children were experiencing together was great fun.  We all really enjoyed this theme and I  know with so much inspiration surrounding me that there will be more!  Have a wonderful day...hope you find time for some fun and adventure!

Lots of texture and color on this one!  Today was a wet day!  I don't think I saw a day this rainy since my move here to the beach.  It was a great day to be inside to paint and tackle some of my closets that are still
too full!  Poor Bailee gets wigged out every time I drag stuff out to go through as she thinks we are moving again.  Hope you weekend was a good one and that you had time to relax!  I am excited that one of my artist friends is coming down from Connecticut to spend a few days visiting with me.  Guess what we are going to do...you bet...PAINT!  And visit with other artists.  Life is good.  Thanks for visiting with me and thanks to my new collectors and those of you who have left comments!

#109 Cottage Colors

#109 Cottage Colors
18" by 24" original acrylic on canvas with 3/4 inch sides painted
675.

Today I had fun with acrylic paint and a different subject for me.  Before I began to paint when my boys were all in school, I had thought I wanted to be an interior designer.  Once I began painting though that went to the wayside as I felt I had found a true passion and still enjoyed designing our homes.  For some time however, I have wanted to try doing an interior painting and chose a spot from my own home to paint.  This piece was in my home growing up but was dark wood and when I moved to the beach, I decided to paint it white to go with my new coastal cottage theme.  I love all the colors that reflect in the mirror and all around.  I began by painting the canvas red and you can see little bits of it peeking through. I think I would like to do more like it.  I love the bright colors of acrylics and how fast they dry.  Sometimes it is good to switch back and forth between mediums to shake things up and keep the excitement going.  Hope you have a FANTASTIC weekend!  I have had some collectors taking advantage of my 20 percent discount through midnight tonight so if you read this and find a painting that you like you can go ahead and purchase and I can send you your discount as a refund through pay pal or with your order.  Thanks for visiting!

This bovine gal is paying a visit to her neighbor for a chat at the garden gate! It is the neighborly thing to do!  Hope your day was a good one.  I was busy all day painting and shipping paintings and also got a visit in with my grand puppy.  While I was gone Bailee scared the paint off the inside of the door.  Guess the anesthesia is all out of her system!  Oy. Separation anxiety strikes again.  We now have until Friday at midnight to celebrate my 20 percent off to celebrate the end of tax season!  Yippee!  I didn't owe as much as I thought!  Don't miss out on this chance to save and perhaps get something for your mother or wife for Mother's Day which is just around the corner.  If you are not sure which painting to choose you can do a gift certificate!  We'll talk.  Have a great Friday!

I felt like this rooster this morning up at the crack of dawn to take Miss Bailee to get her teeth cleaned.
She was not too happy with me when I couldn't give her her breakfast but tonight I swear she smiled at me when I gave her a treat and her teeth look so white!  She has been asleep in her bed all night as I paint.
It was another gorgeous day today.  A wonderful friend brought me some daylillies from her garden and some rosemary so I am excited to plant a little side garden at my new little beach cottage.  I picked up some paint to to paint my screened porch ceiling a pretty Martha Stewart Agean Blue.  Then I will be painting my wicker white and getting a beachy indoor/outdoor carpet to go out there.  I want to enjoy the porch while there is a cool breeze.  Well, for those of you who filed their taxes or got an extension at the last minute, let us all breath a collective sigh to have that done for another year.  Yeah!  In fact, I will offer anyone who reads this and contacts me, a 20% discount until Friday the 19th of April in celebration!  That is for 2012 that is!  Hope you have a fantastic Wednesday!

#105 Side By Side

#105 Side By Side
9" by 12" original oil on canvas with sides painted

What a gorgeous day at the beach today.  It was 86!  Kind of wonder what it will be in July and August!  I am loving doing these paintings of the beach.  I am not sure this one is finished yet.  I will let it percolate for a few days and when I feel that it is finished, will add a price to it.  I had a busy crazy day to day taking Bailee ,my furry child, in to have her blood drawn as she will be put under tomorrow to have her teeth cleaned.  I went from there to drop off my taxes and used my GPS because I get lost inside a paper bag and all of a sudden the lady was talking to me in German!  For years now she has been speaking only English!
Another "challenge" of modern life to see how to fix that one..or learn German!  The whole time, Bailee was wearing her Thunder Shirt and shaking like a leaf.  She hates car rides and other dogs and people and loud noises, etc.  Hope she feels better with clean teeth.  Hope you have a wonderful day.  Thank you for taking the time to stop by and visit my blog!

I am posting really late tonight because I decided to work on a painting that started out as an acrylic quite awhile ago and has been sitting in my studio awaiting a makeover.  I have been working on it all evening in oil but I am not quite finished.  When I consider it finished, I will add the price information.  Hope you had a great Friday!  I had a super busy day dropping off paintings to an upcoming show and then working on taxes.  :-(  Then I finally got to paint!  Have a super weekend!

Woo Hoo!  My one hundredth painting of the year so far!  This year is just flying by!  Busy day in the studio today shipping paintings to Canada and California.  Wish I could accompany them to my new collectors!  I lived in California for six years in San Diego and loved it and have never been to Canada.  Hope to one day!  I have been also getting ready to show some of my work as part of the Norfolk Academy Art Show at the end of the month.  It is always a great show so if you live local, I will be putting more info out in the coming days and on my web site.    I first saw this catamaran back in September when I moved here and one morning was out just after sun rise.  The colors were awesome and I knew I would eventually find the right time to paint it.  I included some of my new colors that I got for my upcoming workshop with Dreama Tolle Perry and another new color called St. Remy.  I think I love the same as much as the color!  Hope you like it.  I also sold one of my seascapes with that color in it!  Well, have a wonderful Thursday!

#99 All Nestled Together

#99 All Nestled Together
8" by 10" original oil on panel
250.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to straighten out the cover on my grill and in doing so I felt that something was keeping it from aligning right....oops!  I discovered this sweet little nest and quickly
tried to put it back the way I found it.  A day or so later, there was a fierce wind that came up from the ocean and the next day I found the nest about twenty feet from the grill and the eggs all on the ground under the grill. it.  Hmmm...there were other things strewn about from the wind so I am not sure if my moving it caused the Momma bird to move the nest or if the wind did it.  They are the sweetest little pink eggs so if any of your birders out there know what kind of bird lays little speckled pink eggs,  I would love to know.  I sure felt bad disturbing this growing family so as a tribute, here is this little painting.  I still marvel when I find evidence of nature like this because growing up in Philadephia virtually surrounded by concrete and few trees and the ones we had were really tall!  I just never saw a birds nest until I was an adult and got to live around nature.  Not too long ago I had some kind of creature making a nest under the hood of my car using the fabric lining.  Where there is a will there is a way!  We think we have it rough.  Hope you have a great Wednesday!

I have been having requests for larger cow paintings lately from one of my galleries and also online so I will be busy working on them in the coming weeks.  I loved the light on this cow which I first saw called Paint My Photo where people submit their photos for artists to use as inspiration.  I will be posting this one on the site to share.  I hope you have a relaxing weekend and come back to visit soon!  I am getting close to 100 paintings posted since the New Year!  Two of them sold today to a lady in Canada!  I love it when they find happy homes!

#94 About Face!! Rooster

#94 About Face! Rooster

I had to name this painting about face because I can't believe this rooster has turned his head completely around!  It makes me think of the movie, The Exorcist!  I don't think this rooster has any hidden demons...just incredible flexibility.  I need to get back to yoga.  So today was a delightful day spent with artists and art collectors and then I came home to my studio inspired and eager to paint and spend the day tomorrow painting all day!I have had some requests for larger pieces so I think that will be my focus.  Hope you have a terrific end to your week and that you will come back soon to visit me!

So much fun today in my studio with friends as we all worked on seascapes.  We took a lunch break and looked out at the ocean and sand taking in the colors and remembering all the sights and sounds for when we returned to our easels.  We painted to the sounds of singers like Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.  Life is good!  Hope you have a great Thursday!  Thanks for visiting!

75.
