Angus Commission SOLD

16" by 16" original oil on gallery wrap canvas
SOLD

Wow....another week that is speeding by!  I have been really busy working on some marketing after another incredible session with Leslie Saeta.  She offers two hour phone consultations after spending hours going through your goals, blog, and web site and give great feedback and suggestions.  I highly recommend her! She is not only a wonderful artist, radio host, and workshop teacher....but is a marketing whiz!  One thing I have been doing is finding all my old Like it buttons that I had on my posts that were not set up correctly. They are supposed to start over with each new post and mine just kept adding up from one post to the other...can't replace it until I find all the old ones.  Not such an easy task with a zillion blog posts that have been cut and pasted to two other blogs in addition to this one.
I will be taking tomorrow off from painting and marketing to deliver about forty paintings to Gallery 5800
up in Richmond.  They will be having their biggest show this month and the opening is Friday night starting at 5:50 and goes to 8:30.  I am excited to have a whole wall to myself for this show.  If you live nearby, I hope
you will stop in to see the show!
Next week, I will be focusing on works for the Virginia Beach Garden Tour.  I will put more about these events in my event section.  I would love to have suggestions for some birds to paint.  I hope you have a great Thursday!

All Creatures Great And Small

Photobucket

All Creatures Great And Small

Ever felt like you needed a weekend to recover from your weekend?  I do...what a busy but productive couple of days!  I have been working on a home project that began as just a dining room re-do and warped into my entryway, dining room, and upstairs hall.  Next comes the living room!  I wanted to paint a nice neutral color to freshen things up and chose a classic gray.  Of course, once I started...my moulding started to look very dingy....and the wallpaper in the kitchen needs to come down.  I'm tired and achy but I did a good job!
I am excited to have a full week ahead.  I will be painting more birds for the Virginia Beach Garden Tour.  I have been asked to do a display of my birds for this years tour on April 20th.  They will be holding it at the Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club.  It promises to be a beautiful venue and a wonderful tour of homes and gardens in Birdneck Point.
The gallery that represents me in Richmond, Gallery 5800, is having their largest show of the year on Friday and will have my work displayed on one of
their walls so I will be preparing my paintings for that as well.
Next month, the Artists Gallery, in Virginia Beach will be having their Inspiring Places, Vistas, and Spaces show and have used my seascape painting for their postcard!  So....I will be painting another piece for that show and getting frames for the ones I have already.  I hope to see you at these events if you live near by!  Have a fabulous week!

Some of the paintings displayed in this collage are sold and some are available and can be seen by clicking on the available works link at the top of my blog. :-)

Gentle Giant

Gentle Giant
$295

12" by 12" original oil on panel

I once saw a video of an elephant walking through the jungle and came upon a turtle who was right in his path.  He stopped and gently pushed the turtle aside before continuing on his way.  I just thought it was so kind.  Anyway, I have always loved elephants but have never painted one....til now.  It was so much fun to do.  I hope to do another, much larger version to take up to my gallery in Richmond.  I have also been working on a commission of an angus cow for a client to give as a birthday gift to her husband.  I should be able to finish it tomorrow.  I have almost finished priming my dining room but am now stuck between two colors....classic gray and jimica.  One is slightly more beige.  I love coastal decor and want to hang some white curtain panels made of sailcloth.  I think I will do two squares of each color and live with them for awhile.  Well have a wonderful Wednesday!

Birds Of A Feather

Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!"
                                                                   Robin Williams
Yea! Spring has sprung!  It was a beautiful March day today...the sun was bright and the wind cool.  Signs of blossoms and new life coming to the earth. I, unfortunately spent it inside painting my dining room.  The first coat is a primer with half the color that I will be painting the room.  It barely covered the red and now I don't know if I will like it.  I wanted it to be warm but it has a pretty blue hue to it.  The trim all needs to be done too.  Started to think about Mike the painter....wonder what he charges these days.  I used to really like to paint but felt very sick to my stomach today. Wonder if this primer has a lot of chemicals....  Well, anyway I decided to make a make a collage of some of my favorite birdies.  Hope you have an awesome Monday!  If you want to know more about my available paintings, just click on the link at the top of my blog.

Along The Coast

Along The Coast
$125
6" by 6" original oil on panel

This piece was done on Friday during my time spent with my friend, Scott London.  H worked on some coy fish and I worked from a tropical island which really was only a jumping off point and what I ended up with almost a bit abstracted.  I enjoyed it!  This weekend has been busy working on my entryway and dining room, priming it and getting ready to paint the both a classic gray.  I think I will enjoy the change and then I will want to work on the moulding and baseboards.  I am thinking of super white for them.  For years moving to new duty stations with the military, I couldn't wait to be somewhere permanently so I could my walls in bright colors.  Now, I am wanting to do everything neutral! I guess because I spend my days with all kinds of colors...I just want soothing and simple on my walls.
Well, I really had some wonderful response to my request to pick a name for my last post.  I chose an entry by Brenda, who sent in Looking For Green Pastures.  I also want to thank Jerry who suggested Brown Velvet, Pat for, Beauty At The Least, Sharon, for Pretty In Pink, Claudia for, Five a.m Is Mighty Early, Morna for, Sweet Thing, Barb for Brown Velvet also and Bessie.  Luanne suggested Sweet Georgia or Brown Eyed Girl, MaryAnn for Helga, and Sonny suggested,Stormy. As you can see by all the really creative, and thoughtful names....I couldn't pick!  So I went to Random.org and let them pick a number that corresponded to a list of all the names.  I REALLY would love to keep these titles and use for future use. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!  It is so much fun to hear from everyone.  Hope you have had a fabulous weekend!  To show my appreciation....I am offering 10 percent off of any painting to these wonderful ladies who sent in names!  Also, remember if you have not signed up to receive my newsletter and daily blog posts to your inbox....you will be entered monthly for a free painting giveaway!

Dreaming Of Green Pastures SOLD

Dreaming of Green Pastures
SOLD

$295

12" by 12" original oil on archival panel

I decided to try a new paint color by Lukas yesterday.  It is turquoise and really love the mix of cobalt blue and turquoise in the background.  This cow is looking for a name if anyone can help me think of one!  I usually post at the end of the evening after painting in my studio and sometimes my brain is fried! This is one of those nights so any help is greatly appreciated!  This one will be going to my gallery unless she finds a good home before next week.

I also want  to introduce you to my green eyed studio friend, named Rusty. Yes, I named her...probably when I was tired but she is only 5 and a half pounds and oh so sweet!  She is twelve years young and for most of her life she has had teenagers around to hang out with and I didn't see her that often.  Since my last one flew the coop...she is my new best friend.  At night she drapes herself across my lap and arms as I type.  Occasionally she walks through oil paint and tries to make her own paw paintings...not usually on canvas. She has been my model for more paintings than I can count.  She has won awards and is part of many collectors homes.  She just has that kind of face! :-)

Hope you have a great Friday!  I got started painting my dining room so I know what I will be doing
this weekend!  Thank you for stopping by!

t’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so! ~Mark Twain

Busy day today after a very restful weekend.  I am missing Andrew as he is back at Virginia Tech.  Tomorrow I will have two friends here in the studio to paint with and share ideas.  That is always fun.
Anyone else have spring fever? I am getting spring fever as the trees are all in bloom and the days are getting longer.  I am planning to do some more purging of "stuff" and got some paint chips today to pick a new color for my dining room.  I painted it red years ago when that was all the rage and now just want to lighten it up!  I really do enjoy painting on walls as well as canvas!  So....hope you have a great Tuesday!

6" by 6" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

I have been away from my studio for a few days as my son has been home from college and
I have been spending some time with him.  There is always a game on and a few of his friends
so I like to take advantage of this time with him around and enjoy all the fun!  I did take some
time to ship out paintings to collectors and get supplies unpacked.  I have a commission to
work on this week of an angus cow that I am looking forward to and also need to work on some
pieces for an upcoming show at the beach.  I sold a painting at the opening of the Artists Gallery
show, It's Raining Cats And Dogs and the show goes through the month so stop by and see all
the wonderful paintings and support the local animal shelter!
I am so excited that it is time to set the clocks ahead....that means more daylight and evening
bike rides!  I have been itching to get out and get some exercise but my foot is still swollen and
every color in the rainbow so I need to give it a bit more time to heal.  Hope you have a wonderful day and enjoy the rest of the weekend!  Thanks for stopping by!  This piece is available by clicking on the link below and comes with its own display easel!

Is There An Ostrich In The House? Sold

Is There An Ostrich In The House?

SOLD

Such a face!  Such a little head....such a huge body!  But boy, can they run!  Guess when flying
didn't work out for them, they decided to take up sprinting!  I do love their inquisitive expressions.  I began this piece with hot pink acrylic again which I have done on the last few paintings.  I love the way it peeks through in places.
Today was super busy in my studio ordering supplies and stocking my new easels that I will be offering with all paintings up to 12" by 12".  I have a picture of one displayed on the side of my blog.
I am working on my newsletter for March and will be announcing my winner for the monthly painting
giveaway for the month of February.  To be in the drawing for March, sign up for my newsletter or
daily blog posts by email.  Hope you have a super Wednesday!

Rollikin Rooster Ray

Rollikin Rooster Ray!

$295
12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

I really had a blast working on this rooster today.  I got into my studio before lunch with a board toned with hot pink and got started.  I was inspired to do this piece by a photo my nephew sent me who is living in Japan. He took the picture near the city of Nara in central Japan, in a town called Tenri, along a hiking path called "yama no be no michi" which means "side of the mountains path". They say its the oldest hiking trail in Japan. The rooster lives at a temple called Isonokami Shrine, which is dedicated to the sword of the legendary first emperor if Japan. I thought it was beautiful and would make a nice painting.  I am really pleased with how it turned out.  I have been doing my last few paintings on this museum board and really like how the paint moves around on it!  It can be easily framed, or displayed on an easel which I will be posting tomorrow when they arrive!  Each of my small paintings will come with its own display easel!  If you purchase this piece today, it will be included.  :-)  If you have any questions, please email me at normasart@cox.net
I am also working on challenge # 135 which is to Paint Reflections On The Surface Of Glass, from Carole Katchen's book....200 Great Painting Ideas For Artists.  I haven't done one in while cause I had a bunch of other ideas of my own but I should be able to post this one in the next couple of days.  I'd like to see and post other artist's paintings who do this challenge with me!
I am working on my newsletter for March and will be drawing a name from my subscriber list for
February's painting giveaway.  I will do this each month so if you have not subscribed, please do so
by entering your email in the box up on the right side of my blog.  Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Custom Pet Portraits

Hope your weekend has been a good one.  I have been enjoying my visit with my sons and grand puppy...altogether too short!  I also went to see Just Go With It with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston.  It was really funny.  I had fun making on of my collages of pet portraits that I have done recently.  Some are available and a couple are currently in a show at The Artists Gallery at the beach.  To see which ones are available, go to my available works page.  If you would like more information on getting your pet painted from a photo, contact me at normasart@cox.net.  I have been doing this for years and really enjoy capturing your special pet in oil.  Have a wonderful week!

Female Mountain Bluebird

I loved the light on this bird and really enjoyed working on it.  I am SO happy it is the weekend as my sons will be home!  I can't write much now as one will be here any minute.  The cat is on my typing arm again.  She LOVES Andrew so I am sure my arm will be cat free during all of spring break.  I don't mind being second choice though...I love to see how excited she gets when he gets home.  She will be going in circles, purring and meowing like crazy soon!  Hope you have a wonderful weekend!  Thanks for stopping for a visit!

Angus In The Snow

Angus In The Snow
6" by 6" original oil

$125

Today's post is the second of two paintings that I completed day before my accident on the stairs and
trip to the clinic.  I stayed on the couch most of the day but did get some work done on uploading paintings and working on my mailing list.  I am excited about all my new follower and collectors! Thank you for your
interest!  You keep me covered in paint and doing what I love.  I also love doing special commissions.  Some people have me paint their special pet or paint a similar cow or rooster to one they like but in a different size.
I will be developing a page on my web site to discuss that more but in the mean time, please send me an
e-mail to normasart@cox.net.  I am excited to have my son coming home for spring break tomorrow and my
older son will be home for a soccer game this weekend in memory of one of  his classmates.  I don't think I
will make it to the Artists Gallery opening tomorrow night unless my foot gets alot better but check it out at 608 Norfolk Avenue between 6:30 and 8:30.  To see more about it, click on my events page above.  I will
have several pieces in the show and it is a wonderful fundraiser for dogs and cats at the local shelter.  Have a great weekend!

Brangus Among Us

Brangus Among Us
6" by 6" original oil on museum quality panel

$125

Are you wondering what a Brangus is???  I was until a collector mentioned that her husband was going to get Angus and Brangus for his farm! So I had to paint one! This is what Wilkepedia says....A Brangus is a hardy and popular breed of cattle, a cross between an Angus and a Brahman. An animal eligible for registration as a Brangus cattle is 5/8 Angus and 3/8 Brahman.  I observed that many keep their ears down like this and they are pretty beefy cows too!  I liked this one's face and coloring although they come in black and white too!  I got into my studio early today and plan to work on two other paintings as well. Well...better get back to work!
I was SO proud to have completed two paintings and was toning the next canvas a bright pink when I fell down the stairs and sprained my ankle.  I am now on the couch with my leg propped up and my crutches close by.  I am lucky that this is the first time in my life that I have ever needed crutches.  My friend took me to the clinic.  We were there with her a couple of weeks ago when she fell down her stairs and needed stitches... it is getting bad then they know us by our first names!  Oh well...guess it is time to work on my newsletter and get caught up on some day time tv. :-) The moral of the story...don't attempt to decend the stairs while painting! Thank you for stopping by! If you have any questions, please contact me at normasart@cox.net.
