Cafe Au Lait!

Cafe Au Lait!
6" by 6" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.
150.

Benjamin Franklin stated that, “Among the numerous luxuries of the table…coffee may be considered as one of the most valuable. It excites cheerfulness without intoxication; and the pleasing flow of spirits which it occasions…is never followed by sadness, languor or debility.”

The next best thing to drinking a good cup of coffee is painting one!  I think another cupcake or scone painting might be coming soon!  Have a wonderful day!

#126 Dreama Tolle Perry Workshop Day 1! SOLD

# 126 Our First Assignment!
6" by 6" oil on panel SOLD

I am oh so delighted to be attending a Dreama Tolle Perry workshop in Cary, North Carolina.  My friend, Susan, and I who actually began painting with the same teacher and at the same time are taking this class together and having so much fun catching up and painting together again.  Our first day of meeting Dreama and getting settled in could not have been more fun.  She is a wonderful teacher that is funny and very approachable and attentive to everyone in the class.  We all painted from the same image after she did a demonstration for us in stages.  Tomorrow I hope to have a picture of all of our work to share.  Dreama works with a lot of transparent paints in a wonderfully colorful and rich palette.  Our workshop leader, Lynda Chambers pampered us with cakes and a gourmet lunch that she made herself. I am hoping to get the recipe for the asparagus soup that had fresh herbs in it. This workshop will be a hard one to top and it is only the first day!  It is so refreshing to get away from the usual routine and to study with such a talented artist.  Hope you have a wonderful day!

#115 Pink Geranium

#115 Pink Geranium
8" by 8" original oil on panel
225.

Today we went to Stoney's which is a local nursery that has the most beautiful flowers and herbs. They also have very creative ways to display your flowers and wonderful containers.  They will have things planted in old chairs and antique sewing machines.  I even saw geraniums growing in a military ordinance box. I was bitten by the gardening bug again when my friend, Claudia so generously gave me some some day lilies from her garden and some rosemary.  Today I picked up some gorgeous pink geraniums for a large pot and some bay leaves and lavender.  Another benefit of growing a garden is being able to paint your flowers and it is always a great learning tool to paint something from real life.
Who knows what I will paint tomorrow...most days I don't have a clue until I get into my studio.  Saturday evening is the opening of the Norfolk Academy art show and I am excited to have four of my paintings in the show.  It goes from 6 to 8 and is at 1585 Wesleyn Drive.  If you are local, I hope to see you there!  Have a great Friday!

Party Of One SOLD

Painting Challenge #3 Paint an Abundant Party Scene  SOLD

Party Of One
$125
6" by 6" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Today was a very busy day with preparations for my painting session with my dear friends, Adele Loomans, and Claudia Finn.  We first had some lunch together and then got into our projects.  One of the great things about spending time with other artists is sharing ideas, inspiration, and getting some critiques on paintings that are in process and bouncing around ideas for new ones.  I had so many ideas and energy after they left that I didn't know where to start.  Luckily I had my challenge to work on and it was to work on an abundant party scene.  This is my spin on it!  One awesome dessert is all it takes to spell PARTY to me!  I decided to work with a palette knife for this one after looking at H.W. Dixon's site.  She is a wonderful palette knife painterT
My next challenge post will be on Thursday night. Challenge #4 is to paint something delicious....this could get out of hand....I have been craving something sweet all day!  I can hardly wait to get back in my studio tomorrow and work on some of my new inspirations!  Hope your week is going well. :-)

Painting Challenge.. .#1 Paint A Group Of "Boring" Objects

Out Of The Starting Gate

6" by 6" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.
Someone reading the title and looking at this painting might not get the connection but today I began my New Year's challenge to stretch my painting skills and try out new subjects.  I wanted to quit about half way through so it is good I had put it out there that I was doing it! It was kind of painful but I am glad I did because after wards I couldn't wait to work on a rooster! :-)  I think I missed color in this the most. I actually do like my cell phone especially since I got a replacement and discovered that hanging up on everyone was not user related but a defect of the phone!  Texting is much easier now.  Anyway, I included it because a black oblong object was kinda boring.  It was a good lesson in seeing and any time you work from life instead of a photograph it is more challenging.  I will be posting my rooster tomorrow and will work on challenge #2 for Monday's post which is to Paint Something You See Everyday! Hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow and the rest of the weekend!  For information on this piece or any of my other paintings, contact me at normasart@cox.net.

Norma Wilson Still Life Pear Fruit Art SOLD

Pansies 'N Pears  SOLD
12" by 16" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Such a wonderful day spent with my friend, Susan, who stopped to visit on her way home from a workshop and we got to catch up a bit and paint together. We first had out visit
to Starbucks and then to the nursery to find some pansies and Farm Fresh for pears. This set up was on my white framing table with a light that created some strong shadows and highlights. It was fun to paint, share stories, and listen to some great music while the paint was flying!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Hydrangea Bouquet Floral Art

20" by 20" original oil on gallery wrap canvas with sides painted.

Today was a good busy day in my studio with a painting that was great fun to do. Hydrangeas are my favorite flower in summer and I love to cut them and put them in a vase in my kitchen too. Hope you are having a great week. My trip to Philadelphia was a good one. It was good to see my siter and her husband and my Mom again. I stopped in Philly and saw my Aunt Mildred too. It was a lot of driving but Andrew and I got to visit and chat in the car along the way. I realized how fast he is growing up and how much I enjoy our time together. Each moment is precious. Til tomorrow.
