Norma Wilson Original Oil Sea Bird On The Beach

9' by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.
This past week I have listed several pieces at .99 cent starting bids! There is no reserve!
I love these little birds when I go for walks here in Virginia Beach. They scamper about at such speed scavenging what the surf has just brough in....no need for aerobics classes when you work so hard for your food! Hope you were out enjoying your weekend and taking in some of the wonderful sunshine. I lived vicariously today by painting this bird. I could see the sun hitting the surf and hear the sounds of the ocean. I am looking so forward to going to Chincoteague in September for our annual paint out. A group of us go for the weekend and paint the local scenery and then enter our paintings into the show on Saturday night. Chincoteague has retained much of its small town feel and is known for the wild ponies that live there. I am sure I will be painting some horses and marsh scenes. I also love to go to the beach there and potograph pictures of the children playing in the surf. Thank you to all of you for visiting my blog and to all of my collectors! Click to Bid!

Norma Wilson Original Oil White Labrador Portrait Art

10" by 10" original oil on wrap around canvas with 3/4 inch sides painted. I originally did this piece in acrylic but decided to paint the next layers in oil which added a wonderful depth to it. I normally begin all my paintings with a coat of red acrylic paint or more recently in black. I find this works better for me than beginning with a white surface. I love how the colors underneath peak through in some places. Click to Bid!

My Studio

I decided to post my new studio this tonight as I did not get a painting finished today. Today was my teaching day at Harbor's Edge and tonight I have been having a great time visiting with my sons. My oldest is home for the weekend and my middle son is home from college for the summer with my grandpuppy. He has been entertaining us all and just ate my snack when I was distracted.

Tomorrow is such a busy day and I have not even begun to prepare for it. I will be manning the tent at Gosport Art Festival in Portsmouth for the Chesapeake Bay Art Association. I am doing a demonstration and have to gather my materials and be down there by about 8:00. My dilemma is always...is it better to just go to bed and get up REALLY early or is it better to get it all ready and THEN go to bed. I am worn out but I know it will be a fun day tomorrow.

My youngest son is celebrating his 16th birthday with his friends tomorrow night with a movie and cake and ice cream. His actual birthday is on Sunday. The year he was born it did not fall on Mother's Day but I thought it would be an awesome present.

Well, have a terrific weekend!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Black Labrador Retriever

10" by 10" original oil on gallery wrap canvas with 1 and 3/4 inch sides painted.

I really had fun with this piece playing with color in the highlights and I am pleased with the results and expecially love the eyes.

Today was an exciting day as I found a studio spot for the summer months when my sons are home and things are a bit more distracting on the home front. It is on High Street in Portsmouth for any of you that are local....stop by! This Friday is First Friday in Portsmouth and all the stores, galleries, and eateries will be open and all kinds of fun stuff going on like wine and cheese tasting and specials in the stores. I am looking forward to the time spent with fellow artists and feeling inspired by all that creativity! Have a great day on Thursday!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Yorkie "Katie" Dog Portrait

11" by 14" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted. This piece is not for sale but was commissioned by a lady who loves coming home to this face every day. In fact, Katie, likes to go with her owner on outings and is very well behaved.

I spent most of my day in my studio working on this piece and also getting ready for this weekend's show at Jerry's Artarama on Providence Road in Virginia Beach. It begins on Saturday at 10:00 and runs until 6:30. I will be doing demonstrations which I have grown to enjoy. I used to feel pretty self conscious but after painting daily now for about a year and a half, I pretty much go on auto pilot and become absorbed in the process.

It looks like it will be a nice weekend. I am going to be inside again but there will be tents in the parking lot. Hope to see you there! To see some of my paintings which are ending today, click on my eBay website!

Norma Wilson Original Oil White Irish Cow Painting Art

10" by 10" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

I couldn't stay away from my Irish cows too long! I was good to do a white one with lots of thick brushstrokes again. I had a really busy studio day with shipping and worked on several paintings for my show this weekend at Jerry's Artarama on Providence Road in Virginia Beach.

I am not sure I will schedule two shows in one month again but I AM getting alot of painting done! I have been having fun switching back and forth from acrylic to oil. It is fun to change things up. I have also been switching between fruits, animals, and flowers. I am planning to do some portraits of people too soon.

Well, it is time to call it a night so have a wonderful day tomorrow!

Norma Wilson Original Acrylic White Lab Retriever Dog

10" by 10" original acrylic on wrap around canvas with 3/4 inch sides painted.

After having so much fun with acrylics at the art festival this past weekend, I decided to do another one and I am really pleased with it. I love labradors and how much love shines through their faces. They are adorable and SO smart. I can't wait until Sean comes home with my grandpuppy! Pretty soon he will be a granddog. My son says he is shedding ALOT and is bigger than ever. I am going to have to keep my new couches covered for sure.

I also worked on two other acrylics that I will most likely put in this weekend's show. If you live near Chesapeake, I will be at Jerry's Artarama all weekend inside. There will also be artists outside in the parking lot. Hope to see you there!

Norma Wilson Original Acrylic Shih Tzu Dog Portrait Art

6" by 6" original acrylic on wrap around canvas with 3/4 inch sides painted.

Tonight's post is a painting that I did at the art festival that I was in this past Sunday. I chose to do acrylic for the ease of handling it and I am so pleased with how it turned out! I think I will do more acrylic this week as I am in a show this coming weekend also. I had many requests for custom pet portraits which I am really excited about. All different breeds! I love the expression on this little guy. I really do like fluffy little lap dogs but I love the big ones too. In a couple of weeks I will have my grandpuppy home, Brewsky, with my son Sean. They will be home all summer so it will be LOTS of fun around here. He is a black lab who weighs about 80 pounds now! I'll be doing another black lab this week also. Have a wonderful day!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Rooster On The Fence

14" by 18" on wrap around canvas with 3/4 inch sides painted.

I can't believe it is 11 o'clock and I am still in my studio doing my blog. My intention was to get in bed early tonight but that didn't happen. Andrew's first game of the season was great. His team won 2 to 0. Yeah! Today was such a beautiful sunny day with all the blossoms bright and colorful. It made for a nice evening in the stadium.

Today I finished this rooster which I really like. I like the white roosters and the darker background. I am aure it will find a good home to roost. I also worked on a schnauser portrait and I will be posting it tomorrow. I am trying to do quite a few of the animal portraits for my upcoming show in Ghent next week called the Fred Huette Herb and Craft Sale. It is a fun show and I was able to get an indoor spot so I don't have to set up my tent. If you are local and around next weekend, stop by and see me!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Sunflowers In Red Vase

14" by 16" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Today was a really great day with my morning spent organizing my studio. It is amazing what a difference organizing my surroundings makes on the calmness of my brain. In the afternoon I taught here at home and then headed down to Harbor's Edge where I teach on Friday. They were having a special dinner and art show called, "April In Paris". I was invited to join and the student's work was on display. It was a great evening. When I came home, I finished up this piece and began a rooster that I will be posting tomorrow. Last night I didn't get in bed until after midnight so I am going to try to make it earlier tonight. Have a super day today!

Elpi's Cat/ Custom Pet Portrait

Well, it's a rainy Saturday here in Virginia...a good morning to be cozy on my couch catching up on my laptop. Last night I was a guest on Danna Crawford's blogtalk radio show. I really enjoyed the opportunity to discuss my paintings and my experience of selling my paintings on ebay. I have learned so much the past two years as an artist and business woman! Danna has been selling on eBay for over ten years and is now an eBay educator helping other be successful. I highly recommend checking out her site http://www.powersellingmom.com/. I have taken two online classes from her and have learned so much about marketing and html which has been such a mystery to me for so long.

I did not do a new painting yesterday as I was teaching at Harbor's Edge and then did the show so I decided to blog about one of my favorite pet portraits that I did as a commission as an anniversary gift for a client's husband. I LOVE painting animals and do many paintings from photographs that are send to me either digitally or snail mail. If you would like more information, please e-mail me at normasart@cox.net. I can send an online brochure and pricing right to you e-mail or give you my phone number to discuss it on the phone.

Hope you weekend is wonderful and restorative! Thanks so much for taking the time to read my words and view my paintings! Take care! http://tinyurl.com/2tx4gc

Norma Wilson Original Oil Lime Trio Fruit Still Life

Tonight's post is a 5" by 7" original oil on wrap around canvas with 3/4 inch sides painted. It was great fun to paint today starting with slicing into the fresh lime which brought back memories of living in San Diego years ago and all the wonderful Mexican food we ate there....not to mention the Corona's with a wedge of lime. It is amazing how our senses trigger memories. This was definately a good one.

Today was a good day teaching part of the day in my studio. My student worked on a pineapple which turned out beautiful and made me think of the Caribbean. It is no wonder I found myself wanting to work on more fruit tonight. Well, thanks for checkin' in ! http://tinyurl.com/2tx4gc

Norma Wilson Original Oil Pink Flamingo Bird Aviary Art

Tonight's post is a 14" by 18" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted. I love these birds for their color and dignity. I think the plastic ones on lawns have given them a bad wrap! I had fun painting it today.

I had a great day working with Danna Crawford at http://www.powersellingmom.com/ learning much about marketing on the internet and HTML code. She is an awesome teacher and so easy to work with!

I will be a guest on her eBay radio show on Friday night at 9:00 eastern time. Here is the link for more information: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/dannacrawford/2008/04/05/Norma-Wilson-Painting-Her-Way-Through-eBay
