Tanner

Tanner

This piece was commissioned for a young man's birthday present and I just finished it last week. I think he will be very surprised and his Mom tells me that the two are inseparable!

Today I made a run up to Richmond to deliver some more paintings. If you are in the Richmond area please stop by Gallery 5800 and tell them I sent you! :-) I am looking forward to time at the beach this weekend with Andrew playing sand soccer. Perhaps some beach themed paintings will find their way into my blog this week! Have a wonderful weekend!

Norma Wilson Original Oil West Highland Terrier Dog Art

Charming Westie Portrait

10" by 10" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

I really am charmed by small dogs. My dog Bailee is a 13 pound ball of fur. I have painted her before and sold her portrait because she just has that cute factor. This Westie is so sweet and I really enjoyed capturing her eyes and had so much fun with all the thick curly fur Click to Bid!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Dalmation Dog Portrait Art

12" by 24" original oil on wrap around canvas with 3/4 inch sides painted. It is currently on auction on eBay.

As I sit here in my studio, I am listening to lightning in the distance. I love to hear it...brings back memories of my childhood listening to it as I lay in my bed after a long day of swimming and riding my bike and playing red light, green light in the street until all the Mom's would begin to call us home. 'Tis the season of fireflies and the ice cream man ringing his bell to the squeals of all the kids. Where I grew up in Philadelphia we loved water ice and Philadelphia pretzels. O.k. now I have to get a snack!

I really had fun with this painting. It kind of reminds me of my grandpuppy, Brewsky, only with white blotches on him! I have always loved dalmations, probably because of how fun they look and 101 Dalmations! For more information about having your special pet painted, you can e-mail me at normasart@cox.net. Black Labrador Face to Face

10" by 10" on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

I painted this piece using my favorite model, my grandpuppy, Brewsky. I love this pose as I know he is using every bit of restraint to hold himself in check....usually for a treat such as a bone or tomato...or an orange! The tail is moving ever so slightly and every now and then, he gives a muffled squirmy squeal. He also looks like this right before he is about to shower you with more love and affection than you every imagined! His sheer joy and enthusiam for being alive is pretty contagious and he keeps us all in stitches. Yesterday it was 5:00 and his internal clock was going off....Dinner Time!!!! There was NO controlling him. He was racing around the house, up on my son's bed and jumping in the air like a pole vaulter onto his couch and back and clumsily onto the floor over and over. Come to think of it, if I did this before my meals, I'd never gain an ounce! :-)

I just know someone will see this painting and think it looks just like their black lab. He is classicaly handsome and looks like he just stepped off the cover of Field and Stream magazine! Spoken like a true grandmother! Have a great day!

If you are interested in this piece or commissioning one of your pet, contact me at normasart@cox.net. I will probably post to eBay in the next few days.

Norma Wilson Original Oil Black Labrador Retriever

10" by 10" original oil on gallery wrap canvas with 1 and 3/4 inch sides painted.

I really had fun with this piece playing with color in the highlights and I am pleased with the results and expecially love the eyes.

Today was an exciting day as I found a studio spot for the summer months when my sons are home and things are a bit more distracting on the home front. It is on High Street in Portsmouth for any of you that are local....stop by! This Friday is First Friday in Portsmouth and all the stores, galleries, and eateries will be open and all kinds of fun stuff going on like wine and cheese tasting and specials in the stores. I am looking forward to the time spent with fellow artists and feeling inspired by all that creativity! Have a great day on Thursday!

Norma Wilson Original Acrylic Shih Tzu Dog At Play

10" by 10" original acrylic on gallery wrap canvas with sides painted.

I had a great time this past weekend doing the show at Jerry's Artarama. I did three paintings while sitting at my booth and this is one of them. I have been enjoying acrylics as a change of pace and like the fast drying time too. Hope your Monday went well. I am going to Portsmouth tomorrow to take some paintings to a gallery and check on a possible studio space for the summer. Take care!

Norma Wilson Original Acrylic Shih Tzu Dog Portrait Art

6" by 6" original acrylic on wrap around canvas with 3/4 inch sides painted.

Tonight's post is a painting that I did at the art festival that I was in this past Sunday. I chose to do acrylic for the ease of handling it and I am so pleased with how it turned out! I think I will do more acrylic this week as I am in a show this coming weekend also. I had many requests for custom pet portraits which I am really excited about. All different breeds! I love the expression on this little guy. I really do like fluffy little lap dogs but I love the big ones too. In a couple of weeks I will have my grandpuppy home, Brewsky, with my son Sean. They will be home all summer so it will be LOTS of fun around here. He is a black lab who weighs about 80 pounds now! I'll be doing another black lab this week also. Have a wonderful day!

Norma Wilson Original Soft Pastel Bailee Portrait

14" by 18" original soft pastel on wallis archival sanded paper

Today's post is another from my private collection. This is my other dog Bailee who is 6 years old and quite a character. She takes her job as guard dog very seriously....especially when guarding her bones and food! I always wanted a lab dog and she definitely enjoys a good snooze in my lap. Sometimes she is upset when my laptop is in the way. If you are interested in having a portrait done of your dog or cat, I work in soft pastel and oil and there are both examples in my gallery at http://www.dailypainters.com/. You can e-mail me at normsart@cox.net for more information on pricing and turnaround times. Animals are my favorite subject and I love to capture their special spirit. Hope your holidays are wonderful. Today is the last Sunday of the year! Thanks for checking in!
