Hydrangeas In My Window!

Hydrangeas In My Window
16" by 20" original oil on gallery wrap canvas
$595.

Earlier in the week I shared a photograph of hydrangeas cut from my own new little garden and I said I felt a painting coming.  Well, on Friday when I paint with my friends at Scott London's gallery in Norfolk I began painting them!  After taking a couple of days off to spend with family and friends, I returned to my studio and had a wonderful time finishing it up.  They are my very favorite flower and a are a joy to paint!!
I am so excited that I finally go down to the beach over the weekend.  A friend of mine had a birthday and we went to Mahi Mah's restaurant on the beach and had a delicious dinner followed by drinks outside listening to a concert.  Perfect evening!  I also had a great evening yesterday with my oldest son and his girlfriend who came for dinner.  I hope you had a great weekend too!  It surely was a hot one around here but earlier this evening we had a big thunder storm.  I am not sure if it helped to cool things off yet.  I am looking forward to a busy week ahead painting and also taking time to get out and scout out new inspirations of things to paint.  Thanks for checking out my latest work!!

Lovely Iris

Lovely Iris

6" by 6" original oil on gallery wrap canvas with 1 and 1/2 inch sides painted.

Today's post if a painting that I have shown before but last night as I was
working in my studio, I saw it and decided to put it on here again.  It is one of my favorite flowers and one of my favorite paintings.  I really enjoyed painting the many folds of the iris and the combination of brush and palette knife.  I had also gotten a new color that I used in the background.  It is sort of a grayed out green that makes the flower pop. Hope you like it too!  Have an awesome day and thanks for checking in!

Norma Wilson Virginia Artist Original Oil Purple Iris Floral Portrait Art

Purple Iris  SOLD

6" by 6" original oil on gallery wrap canvas with 1 and a half inch sides painted.
What desolate place would be a world without a flower! It would be a face without a smile, a feast without a welcome. Are not flowers the stars of the earth, and are not our stars the flowers of the heaven.

Norma Wilson Virginia Artist Original Oil Sunflower Still Life Painting Art

Breakfast Room Sunflowers

Love this time of year with so many flowers in bloom and sunflowers in all the stores calling to me to paint! They are such happy and proud flowers out there standing tall and sharing their beauty with such bravado! I think they should inspire us all to share that beauty that comes from within! This piece is sold. Contact me at normasart@cox.net if you would like more information about any of my other pieces or if you have an idea for a painting you would like to commission me to do!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Sunflower Floral Portrait Art

Sunflowers In My Studio Completed

14" by 18" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted

Today was a perfect day here in Chesapeake and I could not think of a better way to celebrate the beginning of Spring than to finish up this sunflower painting. I took my daily bike ride around the neighborhood when I completed this and listened to my pandora station on my cell phone. Lots of folks were out and about working in they yards putting down mulch, planting pansies, kids playing ball in the streets. It was all in all...a great day. Norma Wilson Original Oil Floral Bouquet Still Life Art

Backyard Repose

18" by 24" original oil on gallery wrap canvas with 1 and a half inch sides painted

This piece has been a process that began with setting up the still life on my deck one day last spring when I brought home these flowers to give to a friend and couldn't resist photographing them for a future painting. Then one day, I worked on it using a palette knife and brush and almost completed it in one sitting. After more months of enjoying it in my studio and letting it speak to me, I added the finishing touches tonight. I had planned on beginning another piece but it spoke to me and said, NOW! I am learning that it is best to do as I am told. :-) Hope your weekend has been a good one. I have not posted these last few days as I have been finishing up some commissions and all kinds of other stuff! Have a great week!
