Love the light on these sweet flowers and how they seem to be dancing! O.k. so you have to use your imagination. :-) As I am SO VERY excited to be back in my home after six years of beach and then city life, each day is so special as I appreciate things such as having my own garden again. I have oodles of space for new plantings but out front I still have a few perennials that made it through the six years that I was away and renters who didn't quite love them as much as I do. I took a picture today of my first Shasta daisies standing tall by my front steps! I have been talking to an expert in native plants for our
area and hope to add some more to the front soon. Perhaps some wild azaleas and ferns.
I didn't even know the value of using native plants and just how many common flowers and shrubs are not native to our area. Less water, fertilizer, and pesticides are just a few
benefits. And the bees, insects and birds are happier too. See how much my life is enriched by having a garden again?

Since moving back to my home in Chesapeake, I have been working hard setting up my studio/office space and finding some small gems that I thought would be fun to place on auction on eBay. Weimaraner Dogs are also known as Silver or Gray Ghost. They originated in Germany in the 1800's and were bred from pointing breeds, bloodhounds, and mastiffs. They were bred to be hunters and have a distinctive grey color. Dwight D. Eisenhower owned a Weimaraner. They look so soft and regal too. I also read that they are very smart and need lots of exercise.
I have come to the end of my challenge and it has been a grand adventure meeting new furry friends on my easel, sharing on Facebook, and finding new collectors. Thank you to everyone who

I have been REALLY busy preparing for two big events coming up this weekend. Today I completed painting, varishing, wiring, naming, pricing, and cataloging twenty two pieces of art for my show in Onancock, Virginia at The Red Queen Gallery. I haven't posted any of these pieces. The opening will be on Saturday from 3-6. The show will be up until August 25th. I hope you will be able to stop by if you are in the area.
The second event is Paint Night at the Richard Stravitz Gallery on 30th Street and Atlantic Ave. in Virginia Beach. We will be having a great time with drinks, hors d'oeuvres, and creativity oozing from our brushes. Our subject matter is...surprise, surprise! A Cow! Today I was toning our canvases red so we will be
off to an exciting start and ready for my students to begin their paintings. I often tone my canvases before beginning a painting. Sometimes I choose red and other times, I might just do a very abstract looking undercoat with all kinds of crazy color. It helps get me in the painting mode and some times makes for a more interesting painting with little bits of unexpected color showing through.
So, I am a big fan of toning and I also think it takes away that feeling for beginners of all that white canvas yet to cover. Come join the fun and if you can't join us, grab a brush and some paint and decorate a canvas!

This painting was commissioned by a lovely young bride
who wanted to give this gift to her husband on their anniversary.
It is their first home together and they must leave it. Their pups were added in and she was very pleased. I had a ball doing it. I remember as a child, one of my favorite things to draw and paint were houses. I am quite the nester and spent my life as a military spouse so we got the chance to live in many nests. It was always a new challenge and adventure. There is something very special about that first home together. I am wishing many happy adventure for this new couple as they share their lives together!

Don't you just want to pet a cow? I do. If the weather is nice this weekend, I might go on a search for one to pet. Our neighboring Suffolk community has some farms where I might have some success. What are you doing this holiday weekend?
My series class is having a break but I painted this sweet gal anyway. She would make a nice gift to either put on a small easel or frame and hang in the perfect spot in your home. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Don't forget the bug spray and sunscreen! :-)
