Norma Wilson Original Oil Beachwalk Coastal Living Decor Sand Painting Art

SOLD

I have been having so much fun painting coastal themed paintings lately. Whenever I travel inland to visit family, I am always so excited to return to the sights and sounds of coastal Virginia. My son visited the other day and he has been away from our area for awhile. We stopped in to 17th Street Surf Shop for him to get a bathing suit and he became very nostalgic for the beach clothes he used to love.  There is a laid back feel here that you don't feel inland. So glad I can share some of what makes our area special. Hope you have a fabulous Friday and a relaxing summer weekend!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Figurative Man Cafe Scene Painting Art

"Afternoon Siesta"

© Norma Wilson, original oil on canvas  5" by 7"

SOLD

I was drawn to this man who appears to be resting in the sunshine perhaps waiting for his waitress to come take his order. One of my favorite things to do is dine outside at a sidewalk cafe and linger to chat and take in the beauty of the day.

Robbie 2 by Norma Wilson

Robbie 2

This little guy took a little longer than  usual to complete as a commission because the decision was made after I began to move back to the home where I raised my boys. It all happened in two weeks time! The last two weeks have been spent settling in and setting up my new...old studio once again. His pet parents had me paint a second portrait of him as Cairn terriers apparently change colors during their lives. The other I did of him now with dark hair and this was from his puppy years. All in all, I am getting to know Robbie pretty well. He sure is a cutie!

Painting #2 "Top Dog" German Shepherd Portrait

"Top Dog"

400.

In February of this year at the 141st Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, a German Shepherd was named Best In Show. So I chose a shepherd for my second dog portrait. So many are used in service in both the military and police forces because they are so smart
and do such a good job. Here's to those who work so hard on our behalf and to those who delight their owners as man's best friend.

I hope you will consider sending me photos of your pet as I work on my challenge this month of thirty one dogs and a cat. Why participate in this challenge? Your pet's photo will be featured on here and on Facebook and while there is no obligation to purchase, if you choose to buy, you will receive 50.00 off my regular price of 400. for this 12" by 12" size. They also make great gifts!

"Golden" original oil by Norma Wilson

If I didn't already love Retrievers, I surely would after seeing the movie, The Purpose Of A Dog. It was such a beautiful story of the deep connections we form with our pets and the impact they have on our lives. I highly recommend it!  I love the expression and light on this precious dog. Does it look like a special dog in your life?

I shared in my last post about a project that I have planned for March. Thirty Paintings In Thirty Days. I also shared that I need your help. I will be posting them to my blog and to Facebook. Where will I get these thirty animals to paint? That's where you come in. If you would like to be featured, please send me your photos of your pet or favorite animals. It could be one of the cows on your farm or horse. I will post more on Facebook about sharing about the challenge. For now, I wanted to get the word out in case you need to find the photos. My email is normasfineart@gmail.com and my Facebook page is www.facebook.com/NormaWilsonFineArt and you can attach the photos when I post about the challenge on there. I'll be writing more details in my next post. Have a great week!

What should I paint?

Moonlight Becomes You!

How do you decide what to paint? I'd love to get feedback on this as we artists are always trying to fill the well of creativity and keep our subject matter fresh and new. Some of my ways are to take photographs when I am out and about...even if I don't end up painting any of those subjects, I find that it takes my focus off the anxiety of what to paint and gets me noticing my environment and all the beauty that surrounds me.  Another is to look at art magazines and find the art that wows me. What is it about the images that draw me. The brush work? The color palette? Edges? Would a new color combination get my creative juices flowing. How about visiting a favorite contemporary artists web sites? That often sparks and idea from my own stack of references or reinforces an idea of my own that I was on the fence about. Painting with a friend is a tremendous help.  Sometimes when I am stuck, a friend will give me an assignment. Like paint a sea gull series. I did that one week and ended up sell two of them on Facebook immediately. I may have stayed in stuck mode without her prompting and without a healthy balance in my pay pal account! The cow above is an example of a prompting from an artist whose workshop I had taken. She said that I should be able to paint a cow from my imagination at this point so I did. And I loved it. She's a little more whimsical than my other cows done more as a portrait of that particular cow. She still has the feeling that all cows give me of sweetness and innocence. So get busy and fill the well and please share in the comments how you find inspiration!

TGIF!  Actually I can't believe it is Friday already.  It has been a busy week and today I plan to paint with a friend in my studio.  It is always fun to get together with other artists and get inspired!  I plan to work on a couple of larger pieces this weekend.  I have liked mixing it up this month.  Have a wonderful day!
