Down in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, horses can be seen roaming wild along the coast in a town called Corolla. This horse is my own take on a wild horse running on the beach with the sea air in its mane.

Two of my favorite things...the beach and horses!  I have gone horse back riding many times but never on the beach so that is on my bucket list!  The next best thing for me is to paint them.  I have always been drawn to subjects up close but perhaps I will do one sometime from a bit of a distance.  My friend Roxanne had a horse out in California that was afraid of the ocean.  Must have been a distant relative of Bailee.  She hears the waves crashing and heads in the other direction.  Imagine if your horse got spooked by a crashing wave!  Anyway, always great fun playing with paint and bringing things to life on the canvas!  Yesterday I mentioned the Norfolk Academy Show and it is actually on Saturday night from six o'clock until eight o'clock.  I am sorry for the mix up! Busy day today back from a three day trip up to Pennsylvania to see my two Aunts.  One is 91 and the other is 94!  I met my sister and we also spent time with several of our cousins that we don't get to see nearly enough!  It was a great visit and we laughed so hard and reminisced about years gone by...

Today I was dragging a bit.  Not sure why driving in the car for hours can be so exhausting but it is!  My friends, Adele, and Claudia came over to paint with me and that is always great fun.  We also walked around my little garden and shared ideas for future plantings.  I am really enjoying these paintings on paper.  I am also loving painting horses!  Hope you have a great day!

   When I was a little girl growing up in Philadelphia in a row house surrounded by concrete...I read every book I could get my hands on about horses and dreamed of owning my own.  We had a small one car garage and one dream was that I woke to find my Dad had surprised me with my own horse using our garage as a stable!
   We had a park not too far from the house with a creek and I saw myself riding my horse with our hair blowing in the wind!  The dream of my own horse never came to fruition but I have had some wonderful
opportunities to ride in Ireland, England, Mexico, California, and Texas!  Puerta Vallarta was the most fun.  The horses were very tame which is to my liking but we were able to ride up into the Sierra Madre with a guide and it was quite the adventure.  So, now as an artist, I can paint horses too! They sure are beautiful creatures!
   Hope you had a good weekend this Memorial Day weekend.  I had a great time at a cookout with friends and also working on projects around the house.  I painted my doors in my studio and some of the furniture.  Hope to get some pictures of it finished up here on my blog.  It sure is a much more inspirational space then it was before!  I have been having fun adding some more plants to my garden too.  I planted my hydrangeas, shasta daisies, and a lemon drop plant.  I really have the bug.

Well...I have tried and tried to crop this photo and get it to save...something I do ALL THE TIME but alas...it is not working so here it is on my easel.  I have been painting in my studio now for 11 hours and I think I need to call it a night.  I have great fun with a palette knife and fun colors for this horse.  Tomorrow I am looking forward to painting outside with my friends and need to get an early start and get my car packed.  Hope you have a terrific Tuesday...thanks for checkin' in with me!       I have been away from my studio for a few days as my son has been home from college and
I have been spending some time with him.  There is always a game on and a few of his friends
so I like to take advantage of this time with him around and enjoy all the fun!  I did take some
time to ship out paintings to collectors and get supplies unpacked.  I have a commission to
work on this week of an angus cow that I am looking forward to and also need to work on some
pieces for an upcoming show at the beach.  I sold a painting at the opening of the Artists Gallery
show, It's Raining Cats And Dogs and the show goes through the month so stop by and see all
the wonderful paintings and support the local animal shelter!
      I am so excited that it is time to set the clocks ahead....that means more daylight and evening
bike rides!  I have been itching to get out and get some exercise but my foot is still swollen and

Great weekend of painting and listening to the rain. It has been so nice to have the windows open again and hear the children at play outside in our court. Today's painting is another inspired by my trip to the fair and seeing the animals brought to the fair by the local farmer. I think I was as excited as the children were to touch the animals and look them in the eye! This piece was probably be

Busy day of errands and painted much of the afternoon and evening on two new pieces. I am so happy with this mule! He was a colorful fellow which I always like to play up I think I will work on a white horse next! I understand it is supposed to cool off quite a bit with all this rain. I am looking foward to opening up the windows and sleeping snuggly under the covers again. Doesn't the time change soon? Well, I am going to try to make it an early to bed night.
