I saw this and had to share. I am obsessed with my phone! Not sure what I think I will find every time I obsessively look at it. Maybe I need to go for a hike and leave it at home. Lol Hope you do something fun this weekend and I will get out and do the same! 😊

Painting #31 of Thirty Dogs And A Cat In Thirty One Days Challenge

                                                                             400.

                                                                Purchase Information

Weimaraner Dogs are also known as Silver or Gray Ghost. They originated in Germany in the 1800's and were bred from pointing breeds, bloodhounds, and mastiffs. They were bred to be hunters and have a distinctive grey color. Dwight D. Eisenhower owned a Weimaraner.  They look so soft and regal too. I also read that they are very smart and need lots of exercise.

I have come to the end of my challenge and it has been a grand adventure meeting new furry friends on my easel, sharing on Facebook, and finding new collectors. Thank you to everyone who
participated. Time to schedule my massage and pop open some champagne! Hope you have something fun planned for the weekend!

He looks ready for a game of fetch. Who could resist? Hope your weekend was a good one. I was up in the mountains celebrating my birthday with family. We visited several wineries and got to meet quite a few winery dogs, horses, and came very close to some cows...not close enough to touch but one day I will hug a cow!

Hope your weekend is off to a great start!  I am off to teach an acrylic class at Michael's Hilltop in Virginia Beach.  Stop in and see me if you are nearby! It starts at 12:30.  I have become enamored with watching videos of animals on Facebook and love the one about a friendship between a baby rhino and baby goat.  Here is it...

Sparkle

Sparkle

© Norma Wilson, oil on canvas 10" by 10"

SOLD

This piece sold to a collector up in Onancock at The Red Queen Gallery.  If you are ever visiting Onancock which is a beautiful town on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, stop in and at the gallery and tell Maryann, the gallery owner, that I sent you!  I thought I would show a few of the stages of development .

First I toned the canvas using some pinks, purples, and blues just to get rid of the white canvas and to make things more interesting.  I sometimes do this with acrylic paint and sometimes with thinned light oil washes.  I used acrylic here and then jumped in with oil establishing the darks and then where my lightest lights would be.  The fun was just beginning.  Don't ask me why I like doing fur so much cause things got pretty wooly!

I add the green for the background and have fun using some in the fur to give everything a cohesive feeling and because green is more fun than beige.

Continuing to play with lights and darks and creating the look of texture.  At some point the animal starts to come to life for me and I begin to channel Dr. Doolittle and start talking to the animals!  I think that is a perfect thing to close with so I will leave you with......

Coming Home
12" by 12" original oil on canvas with painted sides

Today was a wonderful day in the studio spending time with paints and subjects near to my heart.  Bailee and I took a break and went for a walk and enjoyed the beautiful day together.  I just finished watching a documentary called Happy on Netflix that I highly recommend watching.  It shows cultures all around the world and explores what makes people happy.  What makes you happy...I'd love to hear!

Saddle Up Vaquero SOLD
5" by 7" original oil on panel
150.
Thank you to all who helped name this painting!
I really loved working on this little guy who seems to be part of a world where the pace of life is a bit slower.  Perhaps his owner has stopped to get some lunch or a drink at the local watering hole.  Hope they remember to bring him something to drink too! I found this reference photo taken by Sylvia Lang and shared on Paint My Photo and Artist References on Facebook.  Thank you Sylvia! Have a wonderful Thursday!  I plan on being in my studio all day today!

Sisters Bovine SOLD

 Sisters Bovine SOLD
11" by 14" on wrap around canvas
350.
When I was photographing these two, the song, Sisters, made famous by Rosemary Clooney in White Christmas kept running through my head.  I imagine these two bovine girls as inseparable in the field...caring, sharing...well you know the rest.  I had fun with these two while painting them today.  Ever since my workshop, I have been feeling somehow rejuvinated.  I began this piece with a sketch as I had to make up part of the composition and it was so helpful.  Kind of wonder why I have not been doing this all along!!
Yesterday was a wonderful day at the Virginia Beach Garden Tour luncheon.  I had my display set up on a covered dock by all the yachts!  It is a dirty job but someone has to do it.  Almost makes up for all the times my cat rubs her tail in my paintings! Almost.  I met so many people and I had to chuckle.  There were several artists there in various mediums.  Bird carvings, hand painted bird ornaments, handmade bird houses, and three D whimsical birds made of gourds.  I mostly displayed my birds but I must admit to sneaking a cow into the mix.  Guess what got the most attention.  There is something about cows and cow admirers...  I met so many people...all out enjoying the beautiful weather and an incredible setting.  The neighborhood, Birdneck Point, was the site for the Garden Tours.  All the azaleas were in full bloom, dogwood trees, and all the bulbs and flowers.  Really lovely.

This weekend will be a busy one with so many people on the road.  I wish you all a safe and happy
holiday and spring break.  Thank you for stopping by!

Brown Eyed Girl

Brown Eyed Girl
12" by 12" on panel
$295

As I was painting in my studio yesterday, I decided to do a cow but not use my usual palette of colors just to change things up a bit.  I am really pleased at how this brown eyed girl turned out!  It was late when I finished so I am only posting it now.  Hope you like her!  I used a name given to me by one of my collectors, Luanne, when I asked for help in naming a cow in one of my earlier posts.  Thank you Luanne!  Hope your week has been going along smoothly.  I can never believe how fast they go...guess that is because I am doing what I love.  I am excited to be taking a workshop with Gloria Coker on Saturday whose work I have admired for years.  It is in acrylic so I need to get some more paints and supplies that I don't have on hand.  I will let you know how it goes!  I am also excited that several friends will be taking the workshops as well.  She is doing a morning and afternoons session.  Well, more later!  Contact me at normasart@cox.net if you have any questions about this piece of any of my other paintings.

Pig Pal

SOLD

6" by 6" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Today was a snowy day here in Chesapeake and it was the perfect day to be in my studio painting
all day.  I worked on three pieces and this was the second one I completed.  I loved his expression and
all the colors I saw in his fur.  Pigs have such small eyes in proportion to their bodies but seem to be so
say so much with them!  Hope you enjoy this little guy.  For more information on purchasing this piece or
any of my other paintings, please contact me at normasart@cox.net.  You can also purchase a gift certificate by clicking on the button on the side of my blog.  It will take you to a page that gives you options for amounts and how to pay for them.  Thank you!

Such A Face!!!

 Such A Face!!!

The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place; from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web.
::: Pablo Picasso

12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

$295

This cow really got my emotions going...not sure what makes me have an emotional response but I sure felt it as this one began to evolve.  The colors and expression is charming to me.  Hope you like her too!  I spent much of today out and about running errands and going to my favorite art store.  I really could just set up a cot and live there if I could get away with it.  I still discover more paint colors, tools, brushes, canvas sizes, books, videos...etc., etc.  Like a kid in a candy store I am and I know my fellow artists can relate.  It is much like a man who goes into Home Depot and gets all glassy eyed.  I am sure there are women who do too....not me!  I want to run out screaming!  Oh well, I am planning on spending tonight in my studio working on some smaller paintings.

  • I loved this cow's attitude in this pose.  She also looked very striking in the moonlight  and I think she knew it!  Hope you had an enjoyable weekend.  Mine was busy with my boys and Sean took my grand puppy back home today.  I sure will miss him.  I was able to get back into my studio to work on a commission that is now completed and to finish this little piece.

Cow's Got The Blues! SOLD

SOLD
 Cow's Got The Blues!

12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

  • I remember my first art teacher describing an apple I was painting and pointing out all the colors in the apple....blue, purple, yellow, green....and I'm thinking all I see is a red apple!  She assured me that in time, I would start seeing colors and sure enough...I did and I actually started falling asleep seeing colors and finding rainbows on everyday objects...pretty cool stuff.  Now as artists, we can exaggerate those colors or even change them up as long as we keep the values the same as what we see or the degree of light and dark in the object.  The next time you see a black dog, cat, or cow, check out the fur and see if you don't see a bit of blue or purple!
  • Don't you hate if when someone sends you a bad link in an e-mail or you find one in someones blog??? Well, apparently I was guilty of that again!  In my last post, I had some errors with my links and on one on the left column for my web site.  Hopefully they are all fixed now, thanks to one of my readers who is keeping me on my toes! I am sorry for the confusion!
  • I am still working on the new pages at the top for my available paintings.  I actually have more than it shows but the link on the sidebar shows more of them.  They just don't all have the buy it now buttons.  Please contact me with questions.  I also offer multiple purchase discounts so ask me about that when you write and other payment options.
  • I am trying to include something new I learned each day that I am posting and what I came up with is a new way to fix a turkey sandwich.  Actually, my son, Andrew was fixing one for himself and I asked if he could make me one and bring it up to my studio where I was painting.  I was turkey on rye with jalapeno cheese, banana peppers, and a minute or so melting the cheese in the toaster oven.  Ooowee that was good.  Hit the spot.
  • I am also looking for studio tips to share.  Artist's helping artists are doing a radio show about it this Thursday.  Have a wonderful Tuesday!
  •  Also, some of you might have received your daily post by e-mail with a link not working properly.  I had upgraded my account and there was something that I needed to add and that has been taken care of...sorry
  • about that snafoo also!

John Locke "The Exile's Return"

Incredible and Unforgettable Ireland Show at London Square Gallery was a wonderful event on Saturday night with paintings from a group of my fellow artists and myself featured from a trip we made to Valentia Island. Thank you to Scott London for doing such a tremendous job of organizing the show and making it such a gala event for us all to enjoy! It was great to see all of you and to get a chance to visit and share my latest work. The show will be hanging through April 30th so if you missed the opening there is still time to to stop by London Square Gallery at 4410 Colley Avenue in Norfolk. I will be adding a link tomorrow of a few pictures from that night. The painting featured today is sold but if you are interested in having me do a commissioned piece or like any of the other paintings listed in my online gallery, contact me at normasart@cox.net.
