So happy it is Friday! Hope you have had a great week.  This piece is one that I thought was

finished and after spending time with it, decided that I would like a darker background and a little more 

softness to the leaves.   Just ready that it will be 70 next week.  Might see some of these coming up early!

This was my first time painting a rose and it was quite a challenge.  I painted a smaller rose with my 

class and it was a little more loose and impressionistic.  I wanted to do a larger size as I enjoyed it so 

much.  I can't do puzzles to save my life but love to piece together details in more complex

subjects.  It must be a different skill but it always mystifies me.  

All the animals were napping before their trip to Norfolk Academy for the upcoming art show.  They 

will be ready to view on April 25th if you live locally and want to attend the show.  I will post more 

details soon.  Hope you have a fabulous weekend!!

These tropical beauties are a favorite among many gardeners.  I remember my first introduction to them on a trip to the islands many years ago.  Our room had bowls filled with water and hibiscus floating in them.  It was such a pretty display and they would stay pretty all day.  Hope your week is going well.

I love the bright colors of a bluebird and I have painted them often.  He looks proud puffing his chest out for all the world to admire!  Today was a much better day for ducks and geese with quite a drenching of rain that we very much needed.  My cucumbers are soaking it all up! :-)  Thanks so much for checking in with me!

I have been loving the shasta daisies on my walks of late and so much so that I planted some in my

new garden here at the beach.  I loved how the light hit this flower so much that I new I had to paint it.

There is something so powerful about a flower reaching towards the light and taking in all of its energy

and warmth.  I simply cannot imagine a life without flowers in it!  How lucky am I that I get am able to spend time with a flower doing my best to express with my paints the joy it makes me feel?

Hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day!  I spent the morning having brunch with two of my sons who live in the area at Rockefeller's on Rudee Inlet.  We ate outside and watched the activities on the dock.  Even watched as my camera lens cap floated down into the water.  Oops.  I wasn't allowed to hold my camera or my phone for that matter after that.  We came home and I took a Mother's Day power nap and then began painting.  This flower is from my friend, Barbara Lively Mastaglio's garden down in Norfolk. I love the rich colors of these tulips and the new transparent colors helped capture it in oil.  Here are a couple of pictures from my morning that I wanted to share with you.  Miss Bailee's new hairdo is the first.

She wanted to go to brunch but had to stay home. :-(

Norma Wilson Soft Pastel Cat In The Garden

Today's post is a 17.5 by 23.5 inch soft pastel on archival sanded paper. It is surrounded by an archival double rag matt which fits into a 24 by 30 inch frame. It was inspired by my neighbor's cat who has a love of flowers. My favorite flowers are hydrangeas making this one even more special.
