Norma Wilson Original Oil Custom Pet Portrait Labrador Dog Canine Animal Painting Art

Ludo

© Norma Wilson, original oil on canvas 12" by 12

SOLD

One of my favorite subjects to paint are commissioned pet portraits.  It took me until
age 14 to wear my Mom down and allow me to have a dog and as soon as I was off on my own, I have always had a dog and for many years had two dogs and a cat.  They have always been members of our family and bring so much fun, laughter and comfort.  So, for me, painting pets, allows me to, in a way get to know more animals and in the process, they come to life for me.  It pleases me so much when an owner responds with delight and feel that I have captured the spirit of their precious pet.  If you would like more information on the process, please contact me at normasfineart@gmail.com.

#133 Look Into My Eyes!

#133 Look Into My Eyes...
8" by 8" original oil on canvas with sides painted.
225.

You are feeling very sleepy....zzzz  This kitty's eyes were putting me in a trance this evening as I worked on her.  Or perhaps it was the three miles I walked on the beach and the hour and a half yoga class.  I seem to go to extremes when I commit to working out again.  It was an overcast day but gorgeous none the less with a beautiful breeze.  I am treasuring the breezes as I know we will soon have the air conditioners going and really hot weather.  When you read this is will probably be Tuesday.  Hope you have a good one!  Thanks for checking in with me!

Norma Wilson Custom Pet Portrait Art

Tabby Eyes
$295
12" by 12" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

It is almost midnight and the cat and dog have given up on me and went to bed without me but I was determined to get this one posted.  This is challenge 82 of Carole Katchen's book 200 Great Painting Ideas For Artists....Paint your Pet.  This is my little tabby cat Rusty Girl who has been very sick but is bouncing back very well.  She was so hungry tonight that she tried to claw her way up my leg while I was painting....patience is not her virtue.  Anyway she was not a hard challenge as I have painted her before and found good homes for her likeness...she has that familiar face!  If you are interested in pricing information on this piece or another one of my paintings, contact me at normasart@cox.net.
I only purged 32 things today...I am slipping but I could barely get my trash can out to the curb...that is a good thing.  Hope you have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend!

Valentine Kitty

Valentine Kitty  SOLD
6" by 6" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted

Fast forward to challenge # 131 from Carole Katchen's 200 Great Painting Ideas For Artists.....which is to invent or exaggerate colors to create a more exciting design.  I chose to paint a cat from a reference of a black and white kitty and I actually made the photo completely black and white so I could just look at the values...the lights to darks and used mostly red to describe them.  It was pretty frustrating at first but then it became fun.  I thought she made a great Valentine Sweetheart!
Tomorrow I will be dropping off three paintings to the Artists Gallery in Virginia Beach for their One Foot Squared Show which opens this Friday and runs through the month.  I hope you will come out to the opening which begins at 6:30 and goes until 8:30.  It is a beautiful gallery on Norfolk Avenue a couple of blocks from the oceanfront.  Thank you for stopping by!
Contact me at normasart@cox.net for purchase information!

Master Gardner

Master Gardener

This is a pastel painting that I did awhile back of my neighbor's cat.  She is a master gardener and
told me how often she would find her kitty admiring all the beautiful flowers.  I decided she shared her
owner's passion for gardening.  I think they make a pretty combination in a painting!  For more information on this piece or any of my other paintings, contact me at normasart@cox.net.

Little Tabby

Little Tabby

I absolutely love painting fur. As you can see I exaggerate the colors that I see a bit but when you really look closely...you do start to see these colors in an animal's fur!
This little tabby is available for purchase.  Email me at normasart@cox.net for a price or more information on having
a custom portrait commissioned of your pet!

Tabby Cat Up Close

Tabby Cat Up Close

I'm back! I think this is the longest I have gone since I started this blog without posting! I have had some exciting changes going on with my art business and needed to focus on them for a bit and I also had family visiting. I have two new galleries that are showing my work!! One is in Richmond called Gallery 5800 and the other is here in Norfolk called Bonnie Arnold's. Gallery 5800 has a web site but doesn't have my work up on it yet. If you are in the Richmond area, you can stop by to see them. It is a beautiful gallery and a great area to shop and get a bite to eat. I will be adding links to my blog for both. Bonnie Arnold's is carrying my pet portraits. This one is going to there this week. If you are down in Ghent....stop by and visit. She is on West 21st street near Colonial. She has an interior designer on site, beautiful local art, jewelry and accessories for your home. If you are interested in having a portrait of your pet done and don't live in Norfolk, you can contact me by e-mailing me at normasart@cox.net for more information!
I also spent time with Dorothy Fagan learning how to work my new fine art printer and photoshop which I have had for two years now and had no idea what it is capable of doing!
I am happy to be back in the swing of things and the paint is flying again!
Next weekend, my son, Sean, is graduating from Virginia Tech. I am so proud of him!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Cat In Garden Kitty Art

Spinning A Yarn!

18" by 24" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted

This kitty sure looked like he was having fun while out in the garden. I love to watch animals playing so intensely and truly enjoying the moment! We humans could use more playful moments that keep us grounded in the here and now. That is what painting does for me....time ceases to exist and all seems well in the world! Hope you enjoy this painting. Have a great weekend! This painting is
available for 229.00 with shipping and handling included in the purchase price!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Gray Tabby Cat Kitty Feline

Gray Tabby Out Of The Shadows
6" by 6" original oil on wrap around canvas with 3/4 inch sides painted.
Tonight's painting was inspired by my own little Tabby cat who has modeled for me a bunch. I had found her in a zen moment partly in the shadows in my office perched on my desk with the sun streaming in the window. I think she is quite the beauty! Hope you enjoy this little piece which would look great framed or unframed or even sitting on a small easel on a bookcase. Have a great Friday!

Norma Wilson Original Oil Tabby Cat Painting Art

6" by 6" original oil on wrap around canvas with sides painted.

Once agian I have been inspired by my cat, Rusty, who is a grey tabby. Every now and then I see the sun hitting her in one of her zen poses and I am quick enough to grap my camera and capture the moment. Then I use that as my inspiration to put paint to canvas. This one is done with lots of thick, lucious, brush strokes. I love to apply the paint thickly and move it around creating lots of texture and interest. Hope you find it interesting too! My love of painting cats began several years ago when I had a studio at The Artist's Gallery in Virginia Beach. Every year they have a cat show which everyone kept going on and on about and I really didn't
"get it". I did enter a couple of paintings and that night, I was amazed. It was the biggest show of the year with wall to wall cat lovers...may of whom were adorned with cat pins, hats, tails, t-shirts, etc. The local animal shelter brought adorable kittens and the paintings were flying off the walls. It was then that I learned that cat lovers are a VERY enthusiastic, loyal, and fun group. A portion of the sales went to the shelter and the kittens found new homes, and many of the paintings found new homes as well.
