Norma Wilson Original Oil Cow Calf Bovine Farm Animals Painting Art

“Those Eyes”

©Norma Wilson, 8” by 10” original oil

Spent most of the last few days with a crashed computer and deciding on either the new iPad Pro that is 12.9 inches and a new MacBook Pro. I have two weeks to see if the iPad will do the trick but I am not sure as of now. Any other artists out there strictly use an iPad?

Norma Wilson Original Oil Irish Dairy Cow Farm Animals In Oil Painting Art

Far And Away Home

© Norma Wilson, original oil on canvas 6" by 6"

SOLD

Standing by the bonfire with fellow artists in Ireland going on ten years ago now, I became enamored with the curious white cow in the next field. It was almost eleven at night and the sun was just going down lighting her up and she seemed so curious at what these crazy humans were doing? We all decided to go into my friend's studio and I painted my first cow. I have painted more than I can count since then. The infatuation continues! Hope your week is off to a great to a great start. Do you have any fond memories of cows?

The Importance Of Tracking Your Art!

Real Rockin' Rooster

© Norma Wilson, original oil on canvas 6" by 6"

For years I was a fly by the seat of my paints artist. Well, how did that work for me? It wasn't pretty. Lots of crashing and having to dust myself off. I have painted ALOT of paintings. For several years I painted one a day, even on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Pretty extreme, huh? Actually it was a really great practice and just what I needed at the time. I would love to have a record of every painting I have ever created, sold, and of every collector. But alas, after many computer crashes, and photo programs, that did not happen. Until this year... I decided enough was enough and began using Artwork Archive to record everything. I can now pull up my program and key in a gallery and print out all of the paintings I am planning on delivering to that location. Very professional. All the important statistics like size, price, medium, etc. When a piece sells, that gets recorded and collector information as well. What a concept. This program has a yearly cost but it well worth it! There are many good programs out there and for those who are computer savvy, you can use free software that comes with your PC or Mac. Just don't do as I did. Use something! You will be glad you did as it saves so much time and galleries love it. Very professional. Oh, and most software programs give you a free trial so you can see what features you like and decide what it the best fit. Happy Painting!

Red Haze Original Oil Thirty Paintings In Thirty Days Day Three by Norma Wilson

Today I was taking stock of my inventory and found this cow and felt she needed a makeover.
She got a new red background and some special focus on all her face and now I am much happier. Sometimes that happens when you spend time with a painting and I am much more pleased with her now! Hope you had a great start to your week.  The cold weather has finally arrived to Virginia. Some even saw flurries around the Hampton Roads area. Thank you for stopping by!

A Different Perspective

A Different Perspective

Off to a great start with about five hours in my studio today.  I decided that posting one day a week is not enough so I am mending my ways.  This morning I began my day working in a sketch book using some old watercolors that have been stored away in a drawer.  Feeling the need to just play and do some creative journaling just for me.  It really did just what I hoped and got me in the creative mode and before I knew it, I was cranking up the tunes and working at my easel.  I think I am on to something!  I really like this "edgy" composition.  Thank you for stopping by!

Thirty Paintings In Thirty Days! - Day Sixteen

Top Of The Mornin!

2.5 by 3.5 on canvas board

More than half way through this challenge today.  I decided to do another baseball card painting that are known to collectors as ACEO cards.  Many people collect them and put them in albums!
I dropped off nine paintings today to Nansemond Suffolk Academy for their annual art show.  It is always a great show.  If you live local and would like to attend, stop by on January 24th, between 10 am and 6pm!

Roosters are so much fun to watch, and even more fun to paint!  Gotta love that flash of red color on top of their heads that makes such a statement!  I had a lovely evening at Gallery Flux after taking them some new paintings.  They had a reception in their wonderful space with light streaming in all the windows.  It is located in Ashland which is only fifteen minutes form Richmond.

If you are ever in Ashland, I hope you will stop in and see this great gallery!  Happy Friday!

I am still having fun playing on paper and trying some out some new ideas and directions.  I hope you had some fun too today!  I'd love to hear what kinds of things you were doing on such a summery day!

I had a delightful day today catching up around the house and running errands.  I worked in my newly growing garden, watering, fertilizing, and pruning away.  I also stopped at Lowe's and got a deal on some impatiens to plant tomorrow.  Now I need to get a good garden sign....any suggestions of where to find are welcome!   Tomorrow I am going to move a garden bench around front and surround it with some flowers.
My Little Garden With The Crooked Pole
Go JMU and Virginia Tech!
This is my second season with my knockout roses and they are not blooming after much after the initial burst in the spring.  I read that it could be not enough water or sun.  I watered a bunch today and just as I am typing this it started to rain!  Yeah!  It said it could be not enough sun and other than getting my trees pruned...I can't do much about that.  I fertilized too.  They are so beautiful when they are in full bloom.

Taking A Bow!

Taking A Bow!
8" by 8" original oil on panel
 225.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously
give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.
a return to love - marianne williamson
I love this quote every time I read it.  I thought it appropriate with the name of todays painting!
So take a bow! Let yourself shine and share that light within you!  Have a wonderful day....thank you
for stopping by! :-)  Please contact me at normasart@cox.net if you have any questions about this or
any of my other paintings!

Valentia Irish Cow

Valentia Irish Cow
11" by 14" on wrap around canvas
350.

My friend and fellow artist, Barbara Mastaglio, lives in one of the most beautiful places on the planet about half the year.  She and her husband have a home on Valentia Island off the coast of Kerry in Ireland.  I began my journey of cow painting about five years ago when I did an artists workshop over there and it was wonderful.  The instructor was Charles Kello and we had a blast.  A few weeks ago I asked if she had any cow photos I might have for inspiration and this cow was in the one she gave me.  I swear I know this cow from my trip over there!  What a beautiful and open face with such a soulful gaze.  After my workshop my weekend, I was anxious to use the approach we were taught.  I first began with a loose rendering in a large sketchbook.  I used only burnt sienna and white and worked out the values.  It was so much fun!  I also played with some other images before getting to work on canvas.  I think this will be my new routine.  I began this cow working from the inside out instead of drawing it in paying attention to shapes of dark and light and working the background at the same time.  I am REALLY pleased with the result and felt some of the initial excitement of those early days of painting cows.  Some times a new approach is just the ticket to shake things up a bit.  I am looking forward to another one!  I will also be getting ready tomorrow for my display on Wednesday of birds at the Virginia Garden Show Tour held at the Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club in Virginia Beach.  Hope you will come out and see me!  Please email me if you have any questions about my work or anything else!
Study that helped me loosen up and work out values....

Painting from my workshop that encouraged loosening up!......

Out Of The Shadows!

Out Of The Shadows
$295.

It was a real fiasco tonight as I was getting ready to photograph this painting and get it posted.  I had it on the table easel in the kitchen ready to photograph when the cat, Rusty, jumped up to get away from the dog, Bailee.
I tried to move her aside so I could get a shot and because her tail was VERY close to the wet paint.  Next thing I knew she had  her claw in my neck and was leaping off the table as the easel came crashing to the floor and landed on top of the painting.  After taking a few deep breaths, I returned to my studio to do the necessary repairs.  Now she, Rusty, is innocently perched on my arm as I type.  KIDS...what can you do?  Hope I don't get cat scratch fever.
As far as the kitchen goes...I have switched back and forth between a warm gray to kilm beige...to a buttery yellow..to...help!  I was so used to my colorful leaf pattern that I am afraid my all white kitchen will be too bland.  I love white kitchens but a feeling of warmth too.
I guess I just need more information...like an inspiring area rug or tea towels. Have an awesome Thursday!

t’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so! ~Mark Twain

Busy day today after a very restful weekend.  I am missing Andrew as he is back at Virginia Tech.  Tomorrow I will have two friends here in the studio to paint with and share ideas.  That is always fun.
Anyone else have spring fever? I am getting spring fever as the trees are all in bloom and the days are getting longer.  I am planning to do some more purging of "stuff" and got some paint chips today to pick a new color for my dining room.  I painted it red years ago when that was all the rage and now just want to lighten it up!  I really do enjoy painting on walls as well as canvas!  So....hope you have a great Tuesday!

I had an awesome day yesterday painting with a friend and then teaching at Harbor's Edge.  We had a full room with lots of creative projects going at once so it was really fun.  I worked on a new large piece in the morning that I will show at a later date.  Hope you have a really relaxing and enjoyable weekend!  I AM
going to tackle reorganizing my studio.  I may get brave and do a before and after picture.  To say it has
gotten out of hand and full of stuff these past years is quite an understatement.  I have been feeling weighed down by all of it and it is time to purge!  Take care and thanks for stopping by!
E-mail me at normasart@cox.net with purchase questions about this painting or any of my other works!

say so much with them!  Hope you enjoy this little guy.  For more information on purchasing this piece or
